AGM vs Flooded , what to pick

Time for new batteries again. Factory Delcos made it 6 years and I replaced because they we getting weak with another set of Delcos 770cca. These are currently 8 years and it's time to change again.

I'm looking at putting in Canada proof batteries I hear they are pretty good either the GH6AGM 770cca group 48 or the EMXH6L3 flooded type also 770cca.

I just can't decide if I should go agm or flooded?
Stick with tried and true delco or try these?

AGM all the way for automotive use. more stable in vibration. little to no corrosion

I personally like flooded better because of the ability to maintain them and their potential longer life in stationary applications. seeing the bubbles when equalizing. adding epsom salt at the end of the batteries life to squeeze out a few more weeks/months out of them. they are just more fun. but in the end AGM is just better suited for automotive use

I have no experience with the Canada Battery so no comment there

I went with ac delco agm. Summit had them in stock for $160 a year and a half ago. I wouldn’t mind getting 6-8 years out of them, one of the original ones barely made it 3.

I have no experience with AGM in road vehicles but have AGM’s in my sleds and quads. 3 of them are 5 years old already. My latest one for the sled I just bought is a Canada Proof one so no real world testing yet. The guys here at Canadian Energy in Winnipeg are great to deal with.

Ive run both NAPA AGM and their best wet batteries. Liked the AGM better.

BTW, what's "Canada Proof" mean? Thats a new term. Is it a nice way to say, "wont freeze"?

It's the brand of battery made in Canada. Nothing but great reviews from people I know locally.
These are 2 choices one wet one agm that'll fit.

Has anyone used the Odyssey batteries? I know someone that says they are really good.

Agm is only useful if you have a odd mounting application, upside down or on its side. Agm are actually inferior batteries to flooded wet acid, they do not charge or discharge as fast as a wet acid. Plus, they are heavy and if taken down to 8 volts they are unrecoverable. I replace hundreds of batteries a year and no longer recommend agm unless it's an absolutely necessary application. They are expensive, fail easily, require special chargers and have inferior charge/discharge characteristics...

Has anyone used the Odyssey batteries? I know someone that says they are really good.

I have in a few applications and had great luck. X2 Power/Northstar/Odyssey all use TPPL (thin-plate-pure-lead) technology which yields them much higher CCA/reserve capacity and lifespan over a wet cell (when taken care of properly). I personally will be going with X2 Power in my tow rig and race truck due to nationwide availability. X2 Power is a rebranded Northstar (100% identical) but made specifically for Batteries Plus.

I’d say get whatever you want but just make sure it fits in the battery trays and the hold downs actually secure them properly. Pet peeve of mine when these vehicles come in for service and the battery is just flopping around

But 8 years from a delco battery and they’d definitely get my business again

After everyone's replies here and some good discussion at bobistheoilguy I've concluded AGM for my use won't do anything other than empty my wallet by an extra $250 to go with Delco AGm over flooded. Picked up 2 Delco 48GHR 770CCAs for $450CND.

Did you get a price for the Canada Proof ones? I take it you didn’t want to take a chance on them. I know, I would be leery too. I got 8 years out of my Delco in my 2013 gas truck and my current 2013 diesel has Delco’s in it. Not sure of their age.
