Is it just me or does the aftermarket turbos just not last that long before rebuild time? For me I've seen 3 go way to soon, one was the htt off my truck66/71/14 that when i sold it only had 5-6K miles on it running 36-37psi then a few months later it needed to be rebuilt. The second one was 1.5 years old II62/80 broke the shaft had about 40-45K miles on it DD at about 500rwhp CR dodge running 45psi the third one is a htt 62/71/14 off a CR dodge DD with 40K miles on it needs to be rebuilt way to much shaft play in and out up and down only runs 38-40psi made 540rwhp all of these were #2 only

Just thinking out loud what do y'all think?

The reason i bring this up is i'm looking to get another htt 66/71/16SS just don't want to rebuild it once a year or were these just bad luck ;)

Are any of you guys actually testing stock turbo's for bearing wear , since that is the basis of comparison ? I have had my S3 refreshed before but mainly because it was off the truck and had a little bearing play could have probably went a lot further before a rebuild was mandatory .

Sounds like you might want to try a different manufacturer. Maybe this thread title needs to be changed to HTT turbos dont last... LOL

I never had no bad luck with my Garretts. Are you buying theses turbos new or used ?

a lot of people suggest that i get s300 / s400 based turbos but i always stick with the garrett bb models ;)

i try to avoid as many parts failures as possible :)

yeah thats funny, hope your bb turbos never do need rebuilding, heck you can buy a bw for what it will cost to rebuild a garrett bb. i like garrett's also but would never have a bb one just because the rebuild is ridiculous high.

ive got a htt 66/74/16 and only have about 3k on it right now, but that with a big charger shoving boost in also and its still perfectly tight. i think it sees about 30-40lbs and is having 40lbs shoved into it!

I have about 30K on my 66/74 now and it's holding up well. It makes 50lbs under load in 5th gear and has seen 1800 degrees several times.

i'll jump off the rebuild bridge if i come to it. i hear of many many many more journal bearing turbos needing rebuilds then bb turbos.

also will you please post a video of your gt47 pushing 40psi... and then compunding in another 40 through the htt........... that would be an insane amount of boost. plus twins are much easier on both turbos and i think that when properly set up will last longer than any single under the same conditions.

yeah i agree, i was just saying. if money wasnt an issue i would have a setup like rhall with both bb. ive only got on my truck once with the race tune in it. im scared of breaking something else, but i know the big charger boost was at 42lbs in drive. didnt get to see overall cause its overhead and i was looking at the road but it should be around 70-80

I would like to hear more about HTT failures , as I plan to buy one soon .. the whole "My Garrett BB is better than yours " BS gets old fast . not everyone can afford $3 k plus for a turbo , never mind $3k each on a twin setup

Not sure on the barking them but they all had wastegates that seemed set on the low side.

I had a BB garrett on my 02 PSD put about 60K on it and 35psi pulled it off to sale and it needed to be rebuilt the comp had hit the housing a little. So to say there that much better not really sure on that ;)

I believe to existent you get what you pay for but damn the price diff between the BB and journal is out there.

Now these have been my experiences very small but i though i would share
