Aftermarket Rocker Assemblies

What is the limit to the stock rockers assemblies, in regards to HP/TQ and RPM or Boost..??

I have been looking thru most of the articles here in trying to find when do I need to run after market rockers. Doesnt seem to be a decisive answer. It seems that most guys are using them because they want to on most builds. Even the max effort trucks it seems that its up in the air on who's running stock and after market units.

I know of the Harlands and am waiting on a answer from Jesel to see what/if they offer anything for the D-max.

I have two motors currently in shop to finish off.

One is for a DD/Heavy Tow guy and the other is for a 2.6 Puller.

The DD truck is most likely going to stay with stock rockers as it wont see high RPM and still will have the 3750 fuel shut off. The owner has thrown out to us the idea of possibley putting on Harlands, I just dont want to put them on there just for the sake of "Hey I have Harlands on my truck:D!!" Looking at doing a R&R on the stock units and running them. The heads were rebuilt using Comp Cams "heavy" springs that are 120lbs on the seat. Stock valve height, stock valves.

The Puller is more where I'm thinking after market rockers may be needed. Fueling tables run out to 5000 RPM, even thou he has never logged anything more than 4600/4700RPM in any pull. Boost has been in the upper 40's to low 50's in the past with stock heads and cam. This year will be with fully ported heads, stainless valves in stock size and height, mild cam and also the Comp Cams 120lb springs.

I'm thinking he should be ok with R&R the stock rockers and ARP rocker studs.

So what are you guys running..............

100% stock on mine, I only upgraded to ARP studs for the valvetrain, heard a few people breaking bolts (IIRC now that I think about it I think it was Dustin ^^ than told me he did, cant exactly remember)

Made just over 1000rwhp, 55-60lbs of boost, shift at 4300rpm and spray a lot of nitrous, 8500 miles on my engine, no issues.
I would pass on them. JMHO. Could they be beneficial? Probably, but not enough people running them to prove yay or nay

this is all that mine has as well, arp rocker studs. stiff springs and thick wall pushrods.

85lbs of boost, 4k+ shift points and has made over 1k

to me they are like a billet cam, they can help but not a whole lot as far as making power. especially when stock parts work very well

Even with the Puller motor... it wont be near the 1kHP mark. and with the after market units being stock ratio..there is no benefit from an increased ratio to really see a bigger gain than under 10HP just from going to a lighter swing arm.

I have seen where on some of the bigger gas drag motors we built ( 605 and 565 c.i. ) where going from a $1000 set of ProComp rockers to a $3500 set of Jesel rockers where both motors picked up over 65 HP; JUST from the rocker change. So I know that there are gains to be had out there.

Now as far as push tubes go.... should I be worried about the RPM of the Puller on stock push tubes flexing and losing lift..??? Not worried about bending as there is plenty of valve to piston clearance.

I run valve springs, rocker studs, and chromoly push rods (not really needed but cheap insurance)

Push rods are good to do at 1k IMO

I would never run stock pushrods with anything but stock springs, if you do stiffer springs you need to do a thicker push rod.
