Okay I may be an idiot but I cut the wiring harness. I've replace a ton of receivers and have always just cut the stock wiring harness and spliced in the new. This apparently isn't working, not to mention the colors are all over the place and everywhere on the Internet seems to have different ideas as to what each color wire mean.
Now I have spliced the new wiring harness in, tested the head unit and nothing. No power, no nothing.... Except the damn truck won't turn over--> the stupid security feature. (This thing has been a pain in my back side for months now)
So now I decide I should do some research, and I find a forum that tells a guy he is basically screwed if he cut the wiring harness and to get ready to spend a grand to fix it (I don't have a grand to spend on wires, that money must be spent on a tranny build!).
Also there were two stock wiring harnesses attached to the radio, one main larger the other smaller- is this the door chime? Could this be the security issue?
So no power to the unit, and if it's plugged in the truck won't start. Does anyone feel like saving my ass and telling me what I need to do?

Going to save this, if you haven't got an answer by tomorrow I'll pull mine out and take a pic of the factory harness and radio harness so you can piece together what goes where.

I can't believe the truck won't turn over just from removing the radio and cutting the radio plugs off. If you still have the factory plugs splice those suckers back on and go get you a $30 plug and play harness for your truck/aftermarket radio.

I never cut the factory plugs off because I like to keep my decks but if I was you I'd solder that thing back together for now and buy an appropriate adapter that retains the features you do and don't have, bose, onstar, steering wheel controls etc.

Im not the best at soldering... but I guess what better time to learn. :thumb:
The security thing has been a pain in my ass for the last few months, it comes and goes and I never even considered it would apply itself if I pulled the radio.
So is getting the old plug back on there really my only option?

I have never cut the factory harness either. I do know that I was able to drive my truck with the radio completely out of it when I put in my last radio. Sounds to me like there are some fuses that are blown somewhere. I have had the main ignition fuse blow before.

You are correct, it drives without the radio fine, but for some reason when I plug the new radio up, it wont start. so I am currently making my 1 hour commute in silence, hence the emergency.

Ohhhh ok. Did you throw away your factory harness? I would solder that back in and go with an aftermarket radio harness. Should only cost you $20-$30 at the store. If you dont have the factory harness you will most likely need to track one down.

IIRC, 2003 and on, they use a data bus connection for the radio, rear seat entertainment, steering wheel controls, etc... So you need a interface, you cant simply splice in wires like the old days. I'm going off memory, so I maybe wrong.

The interface is for steering wheel control if you don't have control on your wheel you don't need an interface radio would work fine without one now back to the harness it probably has to do with with the data bus and the theft when your plugging the radio in it must be reading something that it shouldn't the gm data bus and the theft deterrent are very touchy on these trucks if you have efi you can shut the theft of and try that

You need to solder the factory harness back in and buy the proper install kit from a company like Metra. The truck will operate fine with no issues. The same company will also have a chime module that will replace the factory chimes.

so upon further research, and some asshole Chinese guy that owns local audio store (extreme audio Sav Ga- F*&K them), I have the LT which means onstar and Bose. I had no clue but bose means there is an amp under the center console. (and of course steering wheel controls)
He said there is no way to splice the factory and aftermarket wires together and have it work, I will have to somehow find a new factory wiring harness, solder this back together, then buy the plug and play harness at a ridiculous price of $250! Man if I had known that I would have kept it stock- I didn't even buy an expensive headunit cause I didn't care enough... I want go-fast parts, not sound good parts.

Anyone know if this is the only way to go?

Here's the update.... I called tech support at Metra, cool company with great support, guy told me not to worry, needed a 71-2003-1 to fix the stock harness that I cut off, then use GMOS-04 to support the new headunit's wiring harness and boom...back in the game for only $100.
Thanks for the help guys, Nathan and Elloit- thanks guys ya'll hit it right on the head.
Hope this thread helps the next idiot that decides he knows what he's doing, but you gotta learn somehow.

I just linked you to the 71-2003-1 on Amazon for $15. I bet you could get both on Amazon for cheaper that $100 shipped
