I am having some issues with my trans after the rebuild. i took it for a test drive and all seemed to be fine, then all of a sudden it was like the trans was in neutral. the engine light came on and i got codes P0872 and P0847. i looked in the book and see the those codes are for valves stuck closed. i dropped the trans pan and found a very little amouth of shavings what looked to me like aluminum. any tips on what i can do to correct this or if i have to pull the trans again. when i built the trans i checked all my clearances and everything was within specs. also the trans seems to chift real hard into reverse and into drive. this is my first allison i have built so i know i am liable to have messed something up

thank you
Mike

I would check the E shift valve for being stuck. That will be the middle valve in the upper half of the valve body.

i took the valve out and cleaned the bore and cleaned the rest of the valve body, i also checked all the other valves to make sure they move and there was nothing hanging them up. i took the truck for a test drive and it seems shift very hard the other thing is the truck is slamming into drive and reverse.

my buddy had similar problems.. but his truck was all stock. ended up being the neutral safety switch. idk if a built trans would even have one of those. just a thought..

when you dropped the pan did you check to see if the internal filter was pushed all the way up into its opening and the rubber was on and in good shape? Reason I ask is I did a flush and filter change and fluke thing a few months later the internal filter dropped down slightly and the tranny was not able to prime itself because it wasnt picking up fluid properly. I pulled out of the drive to go to work started driving and boom into neutral like you said.

If your truck is slamming into gear you probably dropped a check ball in one of your trim valves.
