After Market Manifolds

Just wanted to give the guys running after market manifolds a heads up to check the manifold to head bolts. Over the course of putting mine on at 80k miles and 131k I lost 2 bolts and blew the gasket. Of course it all came to happen at the NHRDA race last weekend, lol.

Just wanted to let the guys know to check them before they have to replace a gasket. Easier to check then remove all of them.

Thread locker tends to loose its hold at higher temps. I may be wrong but there may be some high temperature grades availible. I don't use it personally. They are hard enough to break loose with anti sieze let alone a thread locker imo..

I was just thinking about letting the bolts heat cycle a few times, re-torquing, then safety wire. That may be a solution, but you would need cross drilled bolt heads.

I don't think they are coming loose from spinning out, per se. I think the gaskets and manifold seat which reduces the effective torque on the bolt. So lock wirering them might keep them from spinning out, but they will still be loose.

I personally recommend torquing them to spec, go get them real hot once, and retorque.

I can get locking hardware but it isn't the cheapest stuff , real nice though and guaranteed to work .
