Stock tune= valet thats good enough. you cant break a dmax with a stock tune. If I didnt have so much done to my truck I would still be running my HOT+2ET. My truck has tons of power and shifts good but it has never been what I consider perfect since I had my PPE. I've always had a little quirk or glitch with EFI. There are very good EFI tuners out there and they all seem to specialize in something, brute power, great drivability, good fuel mileage etc. I've had a several different EFI tunes but have not had anything as well rounded as PPE.

First do the transmission so you can actually use the power that a tuner will be making. Then just go with EFI and a DSP5 switch. It can be modified endlessly as you do more to make power, and you will want more. BTW - I had a PPE on the stock engine......tunes #4 and over made so much smoke that I was embarrassed to drive it, took the thing out after 2 days.

I couldnt agree more with "build the transmission first"As far as upgrades go.
For longevity though, egr delete, pvc reroute, lift pump, banks intake and a 4" exhaust would go on in the first week. Along with fresh fluids and filters, and probably some front end parts. Then buy the power, its tough to make the decision to do it responsibly like that, but its really alot more difficult to not use the power if it is there, at least for me it is. Welcome to the diesel culture!

If its a true 2006, which correct me if I'm wrong, will have the + and - on the shifter. That means it has the 6 speed trans and has the LBZ.

The early 2006's are an LBZ motor with LLY tuning. Chevrolet introduced the motor but hadn't gotten approval from EPA or whoever it was to bump up the power so in the mean time they put the old tuning on it. Its a 50 horsepower and torque difference. Not huge difference though.

So if I was you, I'd get that truck. I know with my tuner, he said that the 2006 LLY's when he tunes them, he uses the LBZ base tune because they are the same motor.
