So I just recently bought an 04 gmc reg cab dually from my work I got a great deal on it (almost free) but, it has a blown Head gasket. Other then that the truck is in great condition and only has 145k miles on it. I wanted to put a dually bed on it but after some research I found out its not very easy. What do you guys think its worth? I was having a hard time appraising it because of the HG. I was also thinking about fixing it myself and then selling it. Would repairing it make that much of a difference?

why is putting the stock box back on not easy? I know of a bed for sale right now and its white. What is the wheel base?

Value wise not sure I cant even sell my LB7 for 5000 bucks!! Market is tough it seems for trucks that need work

Everything I have read say the frame is not the same on cab and chassis trucks. I could be wrong but if it's possible that would be awesome. I'll have to measure to get the wheel base I'm not sure. Yea I know I was hoping for 10-12 if I repaired it

I don't think you can put a regular bed on a cab and chasis truck. I believe the frame is longer, but not 100% on that.

That depends not all cab chassis are longer framed. Some are just trucks shipped with no box (i think). My 88 chevy was a cab chassis from the factory and a stock box bolted right on. An 01 3/4 factory cab chassis i did and a long bed fit on it. That being said i am unsure of the newer 1 tons.

You would need the measurement from the rear of cab to the center of the rear axle if the frame tail is too long it could just be cut as it isnt as critical as the cab to axle. I do know where a factory bed is i think the guy would sell cheap. He is in iowa.

That's a cab and chassis truck. Outside of duels lined up with front tires. 57" is the distance from back of cab to center of rear axle if it's a regular long bed. Looks longer though. Like an 11' bed.

Working on a lly cab & chassis right now.. Long bed is 4" short of fitting.. Cab and chassis frame is longer.. I can get pics if need be.. Has a long bed on it, little bigger bed gap then normal

The guy who suggested of putting a flatbed on it with a rack behind the cab gave you great advice. Farmers and ranchers snap those up. Changing a head gasket is not an easy task, probably close to 3K for a diesel shop to do it is my guess. Truck looks in pretty good shape. What wrong with keeping the utility bed on it or is it shot? I bought an 03 single cab dually that had been a pepsi vending machine service truck. It had a big utility bed with a tail gate lift. It also had a blown head gasket. Paid 3K for the truck. Did a VIN ck on it and it had been to the dealer 7 times for injectors. I don't think they ever changed the fuel filter. :D Ended up selling the bed, engine, tranny for way more than the 3K and Nathan kept the truck for mocking up turbo piping. You might get a plummer or other service guy who would love the utility bed.

I was gonna try to replace the head gasket myself but need to wait for some funds to get the gasket kit. I know it will be a pain in the ass but I will have a friend helping me. I know its a different truck but i helped him replace the HG on his dodge 6.7 so he owes me lol
