Im confused:confused:

how are you suggesting it should look?
I've started putting a dip in mine so that if rail pressure drops too low the pulse will drop also. I make the dip enough that I know the pressure will recover.

Even the first tunes I built "bulge" in the lower right and lower left and dip in the middle.

Most handheld tuners are more linear.

Not because of some complex closed loop algorthym, but because that's where I needed the fuel to be. :D

To reduce smoke, use the Throttle Base table. That is the actual fueling, not the pulse width table. The pulse width is the "range" of fueling you can acheive, Throttle is how much fuel to use at any given time.

A linear tune doesn't have to smoke, and a "bowed" table might smoke like a Cummins, it doesn't actually control the fuel.

Or at least that's the way I'm doing it. Right or wrong? Dunno.

I don't think anyone suggested using the pulse table to control smoke. It was suggested that smoke could be a result of how that table is laid out (as you did in this post). If I'm not mistaken, I think smoke is best controlled with the MAF tables (unfortunately the LBZs don't have the table(s) available).

I don't see how having a "bowed" table will "smoke like a Cummins". The stock tune doesn't smoke. As long as you aren't dropping too much rail pressure, there shouldn't be a problem. The only reason I changed the way I make my table is because I wanted to hold 26k psi of rail pressure. It works!

more dip than stock???

ovbiously recovers due to less duration,But are you guys saying PW is actually over the #s commanded?

Simon,

There is no dip stock, that's where the trouble can start. When folks start multiplying rows by %, it exxagerates the stock ramp.

We're saying it's possible. Pulsewidth will diverge from 'intended' any time actual rail pressure does not equal desired rail pressure. The pulsewidth tables are set up for actual pressure.

why not just make the whole bottom of the table match the high pressure commanded pulse. it wont hurt anything but it will help the pressure recover. there is no need for a max of 5000 us in the lower left corner of the table. imo.
on another note my sack isn't big enough to turn the boost that high. although i want a new turbo. hmmm:D

With all the different elevations I am in, sometimes a certain tune will smoke more than I would like. Rather than taking the time to stop and reload a different tune...I just add more boost with the PPE Boost controller. It is easier for me, as it can be done on the fly.

I can load a conservative boost table...then increase the boost as needed.

I wish I had kept my PPE boost controller, it would have made for some interesting testing :D

Maybe I am FOS but I thought that you could tune smoke 2 ways, PW is 1 way, but throttle table is the other. I like the smoke if I stand on it. But otherwise it doesn't have to smoke. If I understand right, he doesn't want the "roll into it smoke" ? So I would tune down some of the fuel at the throttle % table. It's not too hard. Put the fuel where you want the smoke. Put less fuel where you want less smoke. I keep 100% throttle reserved for 100% fuel. If you don't like that, tune it back 20%.
