any time the system has been open and the dryer/accumulator has "miles" on it, i replace it. in more humid climates, i would replace it anytime the system is open but that is just me. Most say you have an hour of it being open to air before it needs replacing.

what are the pressures at? i bet you have a leak

just FYI for hot days, start the truck, turn a/c on how ever high you want but have it draw air from the outside (not on recirculate), crack the windows and drive like that for 5-10 min. the outside air is cooler than the inside are of your truck when its been baking in the sun so the are hitting the evap will cool more than the air from inside your truck. cracking the windows helps let the hot air out. im not saying this is your issue, just a helpful tip to get the truck to cool down quicker in hot temps.

I will check my pressures either tonight or tomorrow night.

both times my ac lines blew (once in 2013 and in 2014) the system lost all Freon and was open to air for probably 3-4 days.

it for sure should have been replaced then. the only way your getting moisture out is via the vacuum which isnt enough as moisture can get in when you fill the system or checking it.

ok then I need to do that.

anything else I should replace while I'm in there? any is there any brand of Freon that is better than the others?

edit- what I was thinking of- the orifice tube? you change that when you change the dryer right?

change the drier, orfice tube (inspect it as well, lots of metal pieces means your compressor is on its way out), shrader valves, and if at any point a compressor has gone bad, i would flush the whole system in teh reverse direction of flow and each part individually. i would check for leaks before you drain the system though. some leaks wont show up on vac and only show under pressure. those ones a bitch when you just filled a system and find you have to evac it again

Think I found my problem. Pulled dryer off and it was filled with liquid.

Swapped out my new dryer and pulled vacuum for 30 min. Left the truck to sit overnight and will check it tomorrow.

Only thing I couldn't change was the orifice tube. Car quest only listed one for a 2007 dmax but the one they sold me was too big.

Last year the orifice tube line was the one I blew so the orifice was new. I pulled it out inspected it and it looks good- no metal or anything- so I reused it.

Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the ass.

you just need the generic orifice tube, not the bigger adjusting one. they are like 2 bucks from napa. but yeah, that full of liquid is NOT doing you any favors lol

Yeah I have no idea how that all got in there. Looks like compressor oil to me.

Last year when my condenser line rubbed thru, this oil was dripping out. I have a feeling that the d-bag at the Napa auto care that charged my ac two years ago pumped way too much oil in.

Does anyone have an exploded view of the ac system? particularly around the dryer?

I found a random O-ring on the floor under where my truck was parked and I have no idea where it came from.

I let the truck sit with vacuum overnight, went from 29-27 on my gauge, figured that could be leaks in my gauges. pulled for another 20 min Saturday morning and charged. No issues and I don't hear any leaks- like I think I would hear with an o ring missing?

Ok changed my o ring and charged it back up.

Ambient temp is lower today. Around 70-73

At 1750 rpm
Low side- 30
High side- 240
Holding my infared thermometer in front of the vent I actually drove it down to 32. Took awhile but it got there. Most times I was able to get 40 consistently.

Sound good?

Edit to add- when I first kick the AC on it pulls low side down to 33-35. But if I cycle it a few times low side will drop to 30.
