Wife’s terrain sat for about a week when it was getting some body work done and now it has a funk coming from the air vents it’s the most prevelant after sitting and first turning on. I’ve changed the cabin filter any idea what to do?

mildew grows in the hvac box where the evaporator is as all the water doesnt always drain out the drain for it. you can leave the a/c off, windows down and turn the blower on to try to dry out whats in there for about a week or pull the hvac box and clean it out (not fun) or see if you can get your hands on a cleaner that can go in there after the cabin air filters to kill it/clean it out. i know they make foggers but i think there is an off the shelf cleaner too.

Might get lucky if you crank the ac on a hot day but most likely it’s like a swamp in there now
Take it apart and clean with a soft bristle brush and bleach water

Call me dumb, but I turned the 90 for my drain upside down and filled with bleach and then pulled it off and put the hose to it/let it drain 8-10 times.

:roflmao: did it work?
worst case scenario you aren’t 100% water tight and get water in the cab of the truck

I put towels in the floor, it did get some water in the floor board but it brought some junk out, mine didn’t stink but my floor got wet one day from the AC and I did a flush to get everything out of it, definitely not the right way but it worked ok.

I used that Meguiars anti smell bomb stuff on a car I had for sale. Car smelled like ass and cigarettes before, like a new car after. (Not me, flipping it)

Rolled windows up with air on high and recirculating inside air, set off 2 cans, and left running for an hour. Had to wash windows and wipe down dash and panels after, but that was probably just the funk from the vents.

I have never tried it but I read on the internet (has to be true) that if you turn your blower on high and spray Lysol into the area that lets air come in from the outside (I believe under the windshield wipers) it will actually kill the mildew/mold. The downfall is that you would have to live with the scent for a bit. I think the mildew forms before your cabin air filter though.

Dealer wouldn’t do it for gratis so i messes with it a little but i poured about a cup of bleach in it with it in max and then rinsed it out with two bottles of water it helped a little bit. Picking up a can of ozone today.

TX of course
Use water and bleach in a spray bottle and mist it into the cowl vents with the ac on max.
