Hi all...I'm Matt. Anyways, just getting ready to get my 1st DMAX, and for that matter, my first diesel. I'm stoked to finally be getting one.

I found a good deal on a 04.5 LLY....already had LBZ mp swapped...but after reading some of the induction overheating articles, I'm kinda scared to get it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks and I look forward to gaining much enlightenment on the fine art of DMAX ownership.

not to scare u or go against what everybody else says but my experience with a lly wasnt good i had put on a full s and b cai with there lly mouthpiece profab down pipe and 5 inch exhaust and a ppe standard and it still would get hot never overheated but it would hit 210 way to easy just pulling hills empty but the truck i had was very abused from the 1 owner and i got rid of it quick cuz it left the old lady stranded a couple times

Yeah, I've read tons of stuff online, both good and bad...I would rather get an LBZ, but they're hard to find here. How did it leave her stranded? And thanks for more than "just get it".

You have to remember a good portion of people who join forums and make threads are people who are having issues with their trucks. Not as many people join a forum just to talk about how great their lly's are. So there's a lot more negative than positive.

I have an 05 lly and other than a random issue with a bad crank sensor it's a great truck and hasn't given me an issue. I'm running a fairly hot stock engine EFILive tune. Even while towing 8k+ pounds on the hot tune here in Fl I've never seen it over 210 degrees.

Thats good to hear Grey. This one seems to be well maintained and is all stock minus the inlet mp and programmer.

What type of programmer is in it? If they'll let you test drive it, preferably alone, go out and flog it hard. Maybe even find some hills and do a couple wot runs up the hills. Depending on the programmer watch the OD shift. I'd probably lock it out of OD with the programmer in then set it to stock power and let it shift into and downshift from OD at wot. Just to see how the tranny acts. If it's had a tuner worth 100+ horsepower and been beat on the tranny may be weakened. If the temp stays under 210 and you don't hear and funky noises it should be a good truck

Its an Edge Juice....the dude who owns it says he got it for guages and mileage. Says he hasn't hot rodded it. Seems straight up, but u nev know. I did test ride it, albeit not solo. It drove pretty nice, but I didn't stomp it. He told me I could get into it, so maybe I should do a 2nd drive, as you've outlined. The truck has 134k on it.
