Mike in your honest and very experienced opinion, how much hp can a totally tricked Allison take, and what do you think is realistic for it run (et wise) in say a 6500 lb 4x4 and survive a season say 75-100 passes?

Ken
We are not finished learning how to make the Ally live. I now have billet C2 hubs and P2 planets. 6 speed parts need to be installed to make the 5 speed live. I have a couple of Alli's out there built this way with no feed back yet. There is no doubt in my mind that and Alli can run 9's in a 7200 lb truck. The Duraflite ( 48RE ) has better gear ratio, less weight and doesn't need defuel. It is quicker but has it's own downfall. It can not take the higher RPM and live. Converters don't live in this trans long. TCC fails on launch eventualy. I know why but will not post as I am not here to help the competition learn. I get all the phone calls about all these trucks.
I will not put a Dodge trans in a GM. It is just wrong.

Trans was not built to run those times. If it is put togethere the same way, you will see the same results. Things need to change inside big time.

Correct I had told Mike 2 years ago that " Im stopping at 750hp"

If you include street testing i had 75 passes at around 750 hp
I had around 15 passes on the strret on my big tune dialing it in and lots of passes at the track that i constantly blew boots off or simply blew holes in the inter coolers

I never did get the billet hub or p2 planetary from Mike and perhaps it would of made a difference?

I do like how the gearing is in a duraflight but i feel the same way as Mike its just wrong IMO and to be honest silly!

Im going with a Lenco for the simple reason as it is a RACE trans NOT a built up OEM If I wanted a built OEM i would stick with a allison.

However this is only my opinion perhaps the LENCO wont even work but i sure wanna try:D

32 flavors of gearing leaves a lot of options open:hello:

Simon believe me, you will never be happy, no matter what the truck does, you'll always want a little more. I think the Lenco will be a learning curve, watching the guys who are doing it say it is a challange. Doable, but not a bolt in and go for sure. Talk to Brad at G&J and his experiences with Dirty Max for starters. As far as if it right or wrong to but another OEM tranny in another make of truck. As long as it's within the rules I have no problem with it, and to date, the Duriflite has way out performed the Allison in the big HP applications for drag racing.

Ken are you saying I can't just bolt this sucker in and go down the track:confused::D

I have talked to brad and that was a huge help! Save me some time from learning from his issues.

I like the challenge and so does Ted at MPL:angel:

As far as the rules it doesn't matter to me now since I've decided to go pro street.

How is it daily driving a Duraflight? Does it get hard to see having a bag covering your face?:poke::D

Ran 7 passes last friday all above 138mph. It shifted great!

Ive sold the trans and Ted is going to put all new clutches in it and make sure the rest is all good. We will post up how it looks.:)

I knew this trans wasn't built for the HP we made. And quite honestly I was waiting for this type of failure. We had so many issues getting the truck to perform engine wise this year that the trans kind of took a back seat. We put it back together last week with some replacement parts just too make a few passes for one night. And if it was intended to last a season, I agree we should have done some things different. I think the Allison is capable of handling big HP, but like Simon said, the idea to switch to a lenco was more about learning and testing the waters. Trying different ideas on his truck, and giving feedback on how they work has always been a priority for both of us. This is no different.
