A40 TCM Work In place of a A50?

I have a 2009 Duramax 2500 with the A50 25978353 That needs a tcm I have
A chance to buy a A40 25798264 out of a 2008 Duramax 2500. Will it work? Any info would be great thanks!

Yes, direct swap. Only thing it might need is to be put in relearn so it learns your trans shifting parameters

I was told they have to be flashed to my vin number? How do you put it in relearn? Thanks

It does not have to be reflashed. Tech2, snap on scanner, efi live sort of works to reset the TAPS

A new tcm must be flashed as it will be blank. GM tends to only do direct oem parts swaps which means another a50 tcm. Up to 08 and I think a few 09's, the a40 was used stock, so you should be fine so long as the a40 has an lmm tune in it, and no reprogramming required to make it work since it wont be blank.

You cant buy an a40 anymore so im assuming he just knows where one is.
