A WTF situation

A buddy sent me these pics today. Said he put his truck in gear heard a loud thud started driving then a service 4wd light came on so he stoped got out and seen this



Ripped trannys line, fuel line and a bunch of electrical

How does that even happen?!?

I'm more familiar with the GMT-800 ("old" 2003-2006 body style), but I seem to recall there isn't enough slack in stuff to even touch the front driveline, let alone get tangled.

Is it possible someone went underneath, unplugged the harness, and started the wrap? I mean it might be random chance, but it might not...

X2 ^ something seems fishy there. Also thought our front driveshafts didn't spin less it was in 4wd?

Notice how the 2 connectors wrapped around the start of the driveshaft don't look damaged? Those might have been left unplugged (or even wrapped deliberately).

If the transmission harness was unplugged when he put it in gear, it would be in full hydraulic mode, and would thud or bang into gear. That strongly implies the harness was not connected when he started driving.

Was any service done recently? I wonder if they unplugged the harness to get better access, then forgot to put it back. Or foul play. Something seems odd about this, for sure.

Strange I wouldn't even think a harness would pull the steel line into the drive shaft.

I'm wondering if the fuel line bracket on the transmission was left loose. And maybe I'm missing something but how did it damage the tranny cooler line?

Im with everyone else, looks to have been foul play or someone left stuff unplugged.. All the plugs Look to be intact,which if they were plugged together.. Im sure there would be ripped wires or broken connections...

Those are fuel lines the Trans lines are on the other side.

Unless he is running red fuel.... it looks like atf to me.

That's transmission fluid and no work done lately so I'm at a loss of what caused it. I feel bad for him because he was gonna give me money this week for some go fast parts

I know, that's why I asked. Because he said the trans lines got ripped and I didn't understand how lol

No trans lines on the drivers side. Either it was intentional or he's got really bad luck.

You wouldn't be able to see red diesel like that. I haven't looked at the truck myself but I'm pretty sure that's ATF fluid

Could be ATF if the plug was ripped out of the trans.

Isn't it also possible to engage the transfer case manually by removing the actuator and shifting it wish a wrench or something?

He had to be in 4X4 when that happened.

I recall seeing this exact thing somewhere else but I believe the other guy had just had some work done.
