I was talking to my dad this evening. He had gone to Odessa to get a pickup that had rolled for a friend of his that owns a body shop (about 900 miles round trip). He was on his way back with the truck about 40 miles from home and some a-hole in a lifted 3/4 ton Ford diesel towing a 4 wheeler on a little trailer decides to cut him off and hit the brakes as hard as he can. Of course dad in his 1 ton LMM with about 8500 lbs behind him can't exactly stop on a dime. He hits the shoulder trying to miss the guy, almost wrecks the whole rig. He is obviously none too pleased. As soon as the guy pulls his stunt he nails it. Once he gets everything back under control, dad takes off after the guy. I'm sure he is a little confused when he can't outrun a truck hauling probably 7,000+ more lbs than he is. Anyway, he chases the guy for a while, but he won't pull over (which is probably a good thing regardless of which way the confrontation would have gone).

So here's my question, why would anyone think it is a good idea to cut someone off, especially someone hauling a load, and then stand on the brakes?

Thats justified grounds for a "foot snapped of in ass" if not worse. I had some asshat in a mustang do that to me Tues. evening. I rode up on his ass land he brake checks me and i got along side him and show him some gestures and words that would blush a sailor. Had we stopped there would have been an altrication. I was shaking i was so pissed, and even a bit dizzy after! Another notch in the post of this sh!t week ive had

Yeah, dad said something about a finger and a request for the guy to pull to the side of the road (probably a not so friendly request). He pretty much had the same feeling about the situation as you. He said at one point they got off the freeway and they got stopped behind a car. He made it to the front of his truck before the car moved and the guy took off.

Hood, RF fender, everything in the RF headlamp area obliterated. Bumper cover. Shoved the core support back a bit, im sure theres more that ill find when i tear into it. Not positive but it may have tweaked the suspension ever so slightly. Something metallic rubbing but i know my elec radiator fan is touching the water pump pulley but dont think its the noise. Luckily those are very well built cars so im hoping the body absorbed the worst of it. It really wrinkled the hood and fender up good. He hit the RF corner and there are antler dents to the left of centerline middle of the hood Good thing i swerved of he'd been in my windshield or my lap! I didnt get hurt a bit luckily.

There is a tad bit of good news. Good opportunity to upgrade to euro headlamps/markers that ive always wanted. The fender that got munched did have a small rust spot. Maybe get me a Sportline bumper cover now. I got me a parts car with a good hood for $100 bucks. Its been stripped some but alot of expensive goodies still there. And another guy has color matching, everything i need for $250:thumb: Thats a smokin deal!

Still rather it didnt happen though. Im busy, broke, and beat and its still gonna cost me time/money/effort to get fixed.

Sorry to hear that Josh. I hate when Im driving my niece around and people cut me off and do stupid stunts like that. Worrisome that so many dumb people have valid drivers licenses.

I don't understand why people do alot of things. Like when you park your truck right against the curb in a parking lot to come out and find some idiot parked over the line right up against your truck. We haul alot of grain with our Semi and there have been so many times cars have pulled in front of me loaded just to slam on the brakes to make a right turn. Air horns are very handy in those situations. The bottom line is some people just don't think or have no regards for other people's safety.

Seems like everyone wants to get in front of the guy with a trailer, whether the guy pulling the trailing is running 45mph or 90mph. Nobody stops to think anymore, no respect or common sense.

I know exactly what your saying, while pulling a trailer they have to pull back in within 5 foot of my front bumper. and a trailer can't be in front of them

Well at least he was able to dodge the guy. Of course, it would have been his fault if he hit him even though there ain't much you can do to avoid such things other then go slow. The way people drive here is one of the reason I quit driving our lowboy. It gets your heart racing when you hit the brakes look in the mirrors see 1/2" grade 70 chains snapping and 50tons of excavator sliding towards you. At least when I push a building over I generaly know it won't fall on me.:thumb:

That reminds me of a funny story. Several years ago my uncle was hauling his Case 1155 track loader through McKinney on Hwy 75. He heard a loud noise behind him and looks in his mirror to see a car spinning out through the ditch. He pulls to the side of the road to see what is going on. Turns out the lady driving the car was in a hurry to get to a job interview and ass ended him. Of course there was no damage to the trailer besides a broken light or two, but the lady's car left on a wrecker. He was pissed about getting stuck there while the police wrote the report.

Been there. I almost got a lady in Moab driving a 90k lb blender back. She decided to stop right in front of me to let some people go across the crosswalk on the side street, and the f'kers weren't closer than 50ft.

Even at 25-30, 90k doesn't stop like a Porsche. After I got stopped I wished I woulda just run her dumba$$ over
