Batteries died in truck, after charging them and firing up the truck the AC controls work but will not change through the positions, hot/cold blend seems fine, fan speed works, won't change from defrost to any other position. Is there any way to recalibrate or reset this?
Thanks

Not on the 01-02 that i ever found. Mine were either stuck blend doors (like just barely enough to not move but a little bump got them moving) or the di-electric grease caked up on the blend motor and wouldnt let it contact anymore. Ferm told me about that a while back.

mine use to always be the air direction (vents, floor, defrost) or the recirc/outside air.

To reset the HVAC, pull the fuse for a minute and reinstall, turn the key but dont start it, wait around 2 minutes for it to do its thing. You should hear the blend doors moving and it'll be on auto mode.

EDIT: ignore me here, facts are later in thread

Is it as simple as cleaning or were parts required

Yup! Had to take the actuators all apart.

01-02 2500hd and 3500 never got auto air so that doesn’t work for us. It’s all manual knobs
I'm pretty sure I've seen an 01-02 HD truck with automatic HVAC controls before (it isn't digital, but it has temperature settings and an auto position). It must have been a very rare option though. Either way, there should be a way to calibrate the blend door control since it is electronic. I don't work on those old junkers much though :poke:; if I had one here, I would go out and try it to see for sure. Good luck!

Was it a suburban/Tahoe retrofit? Oddly enough, I have two ordering books here from when my dad ordered the 02 I have. One book (one he ordered out of) says this (S is standard, O is optional)

Then the other book that I think we picked up later says this

Maybe later 02’s got it? Mines August 01. Honestly never seen an HD with auto climate control though

Don’t be jealous my truck is still younger than you and in better shape

I’ve tried the “reset” method a few times with no luck.

Could the batteries being weak cause this? I know you charged them but we all know these trucks get stupid when voltage is off

Also yes James I can’t confirm off hand of 01s had it but I’ve seen several HD trucks with auto climate control. It’s funky looking for sure. Far left control is for blower speed but it’s more like a rheostat instead of set positions and an auto function. Center is your temp. Right is your vent selection.

I’m starting to remember this discussion before.... I keep thinking of the digital display and that’s not the case

Got curious based on your ordering books James. Found a couple 02 crew cabs in LT trim with the "automatic air" on a various used car sites. Picture of this HVAC panel attached. I've never seen one of these before.

Just wanted to chime in. My 01 Sierra SLT 2500HD has auto climate control. But I’d agree I don’t see it on many vehicles during that year range

Now that we are completely off base and Sean will have to just deal with that .... is it only Crew Cabs LT models you guys have seen them in like the book says or were there any extended cab or LS models with it?

Never seen an LS with them before, but if I’m not mistaken I have seen a fully loaded extended cab with them BUT I can’t say for 100% certain because I look at so many trucks.

You dont seem so sure, Administrator :D
