8 spectators died in off-road race in ca

That is a bad situation for everyone, family and drivers. But for the most part I have to agree with everyone here. Those spectators took the risk of being that close. The sport will end up suffering because of their own actions. People just don't get the fact that at any type of event like this, be it off-road or on a track there is always a risk of something going wrong. The drivers know it, the crew knows it, the organizers know it...but they can only take so many precautions. There has to be more respect from the spectators at these types of events. Even if there was a barrier or something to keep them back there would have been some group of people that would have jumped past it to be closer to the action. The drivers always get the wrong end of the stick, he could have had a spark plug fly out of that engine and take out a persons eye at 150 feet away and he still would have been blamed....

I can tell that a majority of us are into this type of stuff and the people posting against adam were either 1) friends/family of victims, 2) dont have a clue how one of these races really work. I have been to many BITD races and such and Even standing back (sometimes too close) think to myself, man I could get hit, and I move to another location.

If I was person 1 above, I can see why they are upset, its a touchy subject when someone you know gets killed. And you dont want to put blame on someone you know especially if they get killed. All person 1 can do is learn something, morn his/her loss and continue on. Not judge others opinions because they arent related to the victim. Person 1 is kinda blinded by being close to the victim.

as for person 2 above, they really need to stfu. They are commenting based on the fact someone died, and its the drivers fault for "loosing control" in a race. I can understand their point as it is sad for a loss, but they dont have any idea what went on in the heads of the victims as they have never been anywhere close to where the driver or the spectators were that day.

I can bet that just about everyone in that group standing there a thought that day that "this is crazy, if a truck wrecks, we could get hit". 8 people that night, thought this, and didnt act (note others didnt either) and now paid the price for going with what their conscience was telling them. I can also bet those 8 people were alive today, most would say something like we knew we were too close and in danger if something went wrong.

I agree with everyone else here. All you drag racers and sled pullers see the sticker on your helmet and I see it on mine too. It says motorsports are dangerous and even with this helmet u still could die.

As competitors we know the risks we take when we compete. We try to make our vehicles as safe as possible not only for ourselves but also for the crowd. Ask a puller ten years ago about explosion sheilds and they would say huh?

I think the crowd needs to understand the risk as well. I mean if your sitting in the 114th row at talledega for a NASCAR race you are probably pretty safe unless a plane falls out of the sky. But if you are like these 8 that were killed then it would be like standing in the grass on one of the corners. You know damn well there's a good chance you could get hit.

The diriver has it the worst. He is goin to have 10 years of lawsuits and a lot of time with a shrink. Might even develop a drinking problem who knows. But his life has changed forever and he's gonna be on a hell roller coaster for the next few years.

Heck I still have nightmares about the time our school bus killed two girls n j was in the back seat when we hit them.

both those types people got me a 7 day vaca from pirate4x4

i dont get the idea of giving money to people that are consistantly make the same stupid shoice that got their loved ones killed... money doesnt put common sense in peoples heads.

Yup, and its those people that will kill the sport. Hell, im thinkin about sellin the ranger ive been building now just cause i really think the sport is gunna start to tank.

To me, i really think MORE could have done more to stop the spectators that did this. Hell, BITD will NOT let anyone near the course unless in a pit and even then you have to have a pit pass. if anyone gets on the course for any other reason during the race they can get in big trouble and if your associated with a race team, your team is disqualified. MORE doesnt really have these kinds of rules set in place.

Now, dont get me wrong, i think its the spectators fault 100% and i know why MORE is much cheaper to race than BITD (due to reason i stated above) but i just think they could have had a better way to prevented though i know you can not prevent everything.


this reminds me of when i was racin in the snowflake race put on by Whiplash 3 years ago. we broke our rhino on the other end of the track and when the rhinos finished they were gunna let the trucks/buggies loose. they did not care that we were stuck out there and could not get back (no way to get a truck back there in time and "tow vehicles" was busy) so we got the radio call we would be stuck out there till after the trucks. Well after so big time yelling from my parents, Jagged Extreme, and our friend pete sohren (pistol pete) they allowed us to get another rhino out there to tow us off the track and they held the trucks for 30 more min. where i was i didnt really have room to back up off the track to keep from gettin hit and the car was still kinda on the course (couldnt push it off). i was scared as hell cause their aint no stoppin one of those trucks if they loose control. Now whiplash is a little more resiliant to send the trucks after the rhinos/rzrs if everyone has not made it back.

It has been all over the news that they are going to try to reign in these races so that nobody gets hurt. What crap. I couldn't agree with what everyone on here has said any more. It is stupid to be that close. Period. Hell, these guys can hardly even see do to the dust in the air, and parts could brake on a vehicle at any time and send it flying off the path. You stand that close to vehicles moving 60 mph over rough terrain, with limited visibility and you are ASKING for trouble...

The videos of the races in europe and here would make me cringe if I was a racer coming through the crowd at high speed knowing I might drift or spin out. You see the same shit at golf tournements on tv. I am a good golfer but, letting loose with a drive down the chute of bystanders would throw my drive out the window knowing I could kill someone. Wait till a basketball hits someone in the head. How about a foul ball or home run missed catch and knocks your teeth out cause you couldn't catch it right? Will the crowd then turn on someone like A Rod?
Just heard that SanFrancisco will be spending 50 mil on a net to stop suicides on the Golden Gate bridge.

They're doing that in NY to the Tappanzee bridge also. Seems to be the second most popular bridge to jump off of.
