I have been searching and reading and can't find what I'm looking for i have a 2004 whit a 8.1 and i can get a 2002 complete truck with a duramax that has a bad frame. Is the swap a direct swap or dose all the wiring need to be changed as well. I have been looking for wright ups but not finding much. any help would be great

The wiring harnesses are not plug and play...its NOT to do with the duramax vs. 8.1 though...its due to one truck being a 2001-2002, and the other truck being a 2003-2007.
It would be best if you could find an engine wiring harness from a 2003-2004 Duramax...then the Duramax would be completely plug and play with your 2004 truck.

if you can find a 2003-2006 donor truck be best bet but a 02 harness swap is not that hard either
I have a used harness lly chassis harness that I would part with. Needs new connecter bodies for the trans speed sensors, you should be able to use your existing bodies though
If all you have to do is change the engine harness over to a 03-04, that will be your easiest thing to do. It should only take about 5 minutes to swap out the harness with the engine out of the truck.
You would need an engine harness from an 03-04 LB7, the 03-04 oil pressure sensor, and the harness that goes from the engine to the ECM, TCM, and trans over to the fuse box. Not sure about the throttle pedal, but I believe the APPS plug under the hood from your 8.1L should plug into the LB7 harness since your 04 8.1L should already be DBW.
