Hey guys! I don't post much over here as I frequent mostly over on DF. But figured I would share my new turbo adventure with you guys too. I'm in the process of having my 4094 converted to a 72mm. Reason I'm not calling it a Danville 72 is because I'm having a local shop do the neccessary machining to accommodate the Danville 72mm wheel:D I will be doing the porting and polishing. I'm currently running stock fueling with tunes from Starlite diesel.

For the sake of this thread I'm just calling the turbo a GDS 72mm.

Well I guess I will start here...

I pulled the truck into my garage Monday morning and had the 4094 out within an hour and 20 min. Tidied up a few things and dropped the turbo off at the shop. Told me about a week turn around time. In the mean time I have just been doing little odds and ends to keep my mind off the anticipation, because its freaking killing me!!

She's out ready for the machine shop!

Ordered some carbide burrs and flaps wheels for the port and polishing part. Decided I didn't like the "air guides" inside of the afe turbo inlet so i machined them out and cleaned it all up. Looks much better in my opinion.

Also this morning I decided to snag an lml driver side exhaust manifold so I went down to the local dealer and picked one up. Its a nice piece compared to the factory 01-10 manifolds.

Gave the truck a clay bar and wax job also while it sits there..(was really bored this afternoon).

So far that is about it, I'm hoping that I will get the turbo back by Monday:D Will update as things progress.

I'm curious, can this be done on a stock turbo by using the Danville wheel and machine the housing? Are you doing anything to the hot side wheel?

Stock housing can't be made into a 72mm. Biggest you can go on the stocker is a 68mm. Turbine wheel will remain untouched but I will be porting and polishing the turbine housing.

Looks like a part didn't show up for my turbo guy so they just barely got it shipped out so the turbo is on the back burner till Wednesday. But I should be able to pick it up Wednesday as well.

In the mean time I decided to do some double protection egr blocker so I made some thin aluminum block off plates to go between the intake and egr motor. This will keep any boost where is supposed to be rather than potentially leaking past the egr valve and/or exhaust blocker plate. Kinda sucks up here cause we have to have the egr at least looking functional to pass inspection. So this is my solution to basically 100% bypass any and all egr components.

Figured i would update this for anyone who cares. I got the turbo back yesterday and threw it in. Unfortunately i couldnt get the port and polish done, if it ever comes back off then i will for sure port the turbine housing.

I love it. I can tell it will be even more awesome with more fuel. Spool up is the same as the old 68mm cast wheel. Blows the tires off on the 1-2-3 shifts. Egts are down 100 degrees overall but it gets hotter faster. Used to hit 1700 by the quarter mile but now dead stop to 85mph it hits 1600 and stops. The turbo has a nice intimidating howl right as it starts building boost, the howl goes away around 5 psi and then its just whistle from there on out.

Will be hitting the track in 2 weeks.

Also while waiting for the turbo, i pressure tested my boost tubes and found a massive boost leak on the hot side intercooler boot. At 20 psi it was hissing real loud and you could feel it blowing on your hand, threw a new clamp on it and the system is leak free. I tested it up to 45psi with no audible leaks.

The turbo is making 40 psi so i should be good. Over all i am EXTREMELY HAPPY:woott:
