Hey everyone, was curious if someone would happen to know the height of a 6spd Allison? From bottom of pan to top of bell housing. Going to be removing mine to rebuild it, and I’m needing to know if I can get it out from under my truck in my garage. Would really suck to get it out then have to put back in cuz won’t fit lol. I don’t have access to a hoist or I would go that route. Might be able to find garage with more clearance if I need but only as a last resort. Thanks!

I just walked out and measured my spare. With a factory shallow pan it sits 21.5" tall. I'm in the same situation as you, but I'm also up against a tranny jack that won't go very high. I have to keep mine low until the trans is out, use 2 ratchet straps to pick the trans up off the trans jack, slide my jack back, set the trans down onto plywood, then jack it up higher, put a strap under the rear of the trans to tilt the bellhousing down to get the clearance to make it past the extansion housing, then pull it out on plywood. It's a pain, but cheaper than paying somebody.

I did basically what he did. The only difference is I put my floor jack in the front and strap in the rear of the trans. Once I got the trans jack out I put it on the rear of the trans on the trans jack and lowered both jacks slowly onto cardboard. The cardboard was to slide it out and not drag it across concrete. Only issue I had is the top of the bell housing didn't clear the tortion bar. So I lifted the trans rear end up to drop the bell housing down under it. I did it by myself only help I had was getting the converter bolts in and out. I have pics of it but I will have to find what broken phone they are on.

Thanks gents think I’ll have to take it off jack and slide it out from underneath. This is the set up I’m going to run for removal.
