I have a 2005 3500 Savana Van with a Knapheide body on the back. Truck has 170k miles. Problem is we cannot get it to run at 210. If it is over 80* outside it will run hot (Around 240-255) and won't cool off until you get on the interstate for a few miles. We have removed the rad and condenser and cleaned spotless. Also has new GM 4L80E trans, coolant was flushed and replaced. I need this truck for work and it spends alot of time in the city traffic so it running hot isn't an option. I hoped someone on here would have some suggestions.

Electric fans or belt driven?

You check to see if the thermostat is good?
How about checking the fan clutch?
Also check to see if the exhaust has a restriction. I.E. Cat plugged will cause strange issues.

Might try Flex-a-lite (probably spelled wrong). They make a bunch of conversions.

Might try looking at the exhaust system to see if it has a hot spot around the converter.

Also check the timing. I saw an old school that was running the timing way off and it overheated, and made the exhaust manifolds glow. I know that the timing is computer controlled, but may want to shoot it with a timing light to see if it looks close.

I will try Flexalite in the AM. I am at a loss on this thing. What do you think about the water pump? Looks to have been changed before but don't know how long ago. I bought the truck off a bankruptcy sale. Is there a chance the pump is not pumping enough water? I was under the impression that WP were either all or nothing.

There are two air bleed hoses that feed the surge tank air. One is from the radiator and the other is from the throttle body. Check both ends of these hoses for a flow restrictor. If the restrictor is stopped up it will overheat due to an air bubble getting stuck.

electric fan is not the solution. Thats just a ghetto band-aid.

If everything is working properly in the engine, there is no reason the stock fan would not be sufficient to keep it cool.

Fix the root problem, whatever it may be, and you wont have to go messing around with a confusing electric fan conversion that might not even fix the problem...

Have you tried another coolant temp sensor? The dash guage and ECM both read off the same sensor in the engine, and if it is bad it can read hot and actually not be hot. Have you verified with an infra red gun to see what it is actually running for temp? Without knowing the actual engine temp you can't know if it is running hot or not.

Quick question. . . when you say "cleaned spotless", was the radiator taken to a shop and cleaned internally or just have the fins cleaned out? I would lean towards the core passages being blocked with crap.
