I am working on converting my 2006 Allison 1000 6 speed 2wd to 4x4 and I read that I can use the output shaft and tail housing from a 01-05 5 speed Allison. Is this correct. Also, am I able to do this swap without removing the transmission? Thanks

Everything you said is correct except the part about installing it while on the truck. Remove the trans to install the rear housing

Remove the trans and stand it on the bell housing-- then remove the rear housing. It cannot be done in the vehicle-- well maybe Mike L can do it-! ;)

No I can't. I tried it a few years ago on a trans that was coming out for a build. It was a bitch. Finaly got it. We then yanked the Alli and found one of the torringtons had slipped out of place. It would have been a disaster eventualy.
If you can stand the truck upright on the front bumper it can be done.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but its related to this thread and what I am interested in doing.

Can an electronic shifted t-case be converted to a manually shifted one?

Physically?

I am fully aware the ECU talks to stuff like that and there are reasons why you don't want to disconnect your electronically controlled t-case from your perfectly good working vehicle and make it manual. I'm just curious if the bolt on parts to make an electronically controlled t-case can be converted to full manual linkage style.
