I have a 40' gear box and a 32' attitude I DO have the slider but I have yet to have to actually use it and I camp at least every other month... But it's nice to have for peace of mind.. I have seen a couple spots in a park that I was real glad I didn't have to hook it into even with a slider..

Depends on the 5th wheel. Some are built really far forward and you won't hardly get any turning out of the hitch before you bust your window out. Newer stuff is built more towards the back so guys don't have to have a slider on a short bed.

With as tight as I've had my rig some times getting into places, I would definitely have a slider if I had a short bed (I have a long bed truck FYI)

I've had my hitch/slider for ten years and have never used it. Almost had to a couple times. Remember, a hitch with a slider is cheaper than the repair will be on your truck if you hit it. Most newer 5th wheels have the extended king pin and you shouldn't have to use it.
