Ok so I have done some Google searchs, and have found the 5 speed to 6 speed conversion kit. Now I think I'm about due for a trans rebuild anyways because the trans keep dropping into limp mode. So I suppose if I have it out and I'm doing the rebuild, I should just do the coversion as well.

So I guess my questions are:
1. Has anybody on here done the conversion? If so pros and cons?

2. The kit is just a few parts for the trans internally. I'm making an assumption but wouldn't I need a 6 speed tcm as well? And at that I'm sure it would take re-pinning of the original 5 speed tcm harness correct?

3. Antyping else to be done to the truck that isn't internal. In the trans itself?

pros, lower rpm when cruising, same w/ towing till you get to a hill then I just down shift it to 5.actually,I hit tow/haul button.
but the really nice thing(I did this for a few who called while I was in the truck) is how much quieter my exhaust is in 6th as opposed to 5th.
I can do the same call for you so you can here the difference.
then when coupled w/ efi live,,I was able to squeeze out every last drop of mileage for the truck.:D

Ok sweet. Thank you, do you know exactly what all had to be done to get the truck and 6 spd working together? And as far as exhaust goes, I hear nothing but tires in my truck haha

Right I saw that when researching. The pricing is the easy part. What I was looking for (maybe I worded it confusing), is what exactly needed to be done to the truck itself. Not the transmission, that already shows I need to in stall parts in there.

The conversion consists of an exchange modified valve body and a reprogrammed TCM. Nothing else.

So how is the ats stage 3 kit? And will it all work together ppe 6 speed conversion and btdieselworks tapshift? Sorry I have only recently stepped into the duramax relm. I was a big ls guy before the truck but since my wife daily drives it, I want it to be built with and by the best

Alright Suncoast it is. Just to clarify I wasn't stating ats is the best... that was more for opinions of members who have put their trans through hell. Like what is the best

Ok question for you pros, with my application, which kit would you suggest. 05 lly. Bought it with 5 inch straight pipe to 7 inch rbp tip, arp head studs, cometic head gaskets, Volant cold air and the guy said he put a gt38r turbo. Haven't really checked that out yet. I plan for efi live maybe a lift pump and twins later on and really only want to do the build once. I am sorry for the million questions, I just want to do job once and learn from other people at the same time
