What bolt pattern are you looking for? I know a 5 lug half ton Dodge hub and a 6 lug half ton GM hub have the same bolt pattern where it bolts to the knuckle. The difference is one the bolts go through the knuckle and thread into the hub and the other the bolts go through the hub and thread into the knuckle. IIRC, the GM threads into the knuckle.

All that said, I'm not sure if the 8 lug hubs will swap. Maybe you can swap knuckles if they don't?

Aren't the new 1/2 tons 6 lug? Would one of those work instead maybe?

oh god...what do you have on your mind now lol :D

I'm guessing less rolling mass and resistance.;) Something I have been wondering about for awhile-and something I would like to try on Simon's truck someday.

Lonnie mentioned it to me about a year ago wondering why no one had tried this yet.

Id think youd have to swap out the spindle, too. Question then becomes, are the ball joints the same?

And if not can the control arms be swapped?

Maybe we should move this thread to the tech section?:D

Not sure. Never explored the possibility. Only way to find out is to get the tape measure out and compare a 2500 to a 1500.

5 Lug - no

Poking around on AutoZone website (for what that's worth) I came up with this:

The 6 Lug 1500 4WD and 8 Lug 1500HD 4WD both use the same steering knuckle.

The 8 Lug 1500HD 4WD and the 2500HD use the same wheel bearing/hub assembly.

So the 6 Lug wheel bearing/hub should be able to be swapped onto our 2500 trucks.

The upper control arms are different between the 6 Lug 1500 and 2500, but they didn't list an upper control arm for the 1500HD.

The 1500HD and 2500 use the same CVs but they are different than the 6 lug 1500 - they all use the same locknut on the end - but the splines are what would need to match.

FWIW-the 6 lug hubs are held in place with three bolts, the 8 lug hubs are four bolt pattern, from what I saw @ the wrecking yard! 5 lug will not be possible unless upper and lower arms are custom. It would have been nice to convert to 5 lug for rim selection as well...
