Ok so funny story my dad has never asked me for advice on buying a vehicle. I was talking to him earlier and he wants to buy a 1977 1500 4x4. Its a manual 4 with a/c. He has looked at the truck in person and said it is in great condition. The truck is located in the San Antonio area. I told him that I would not pay no more than 4k for the truck. I know that the chevy short wides are nice but what do you think? He only sent me one picture and no milage info. If I know my dad right and he says the truck is nice that means it is immaculate.

If it's a rust free and original fleetside short bed K10, I'd say $8-10K is fair in today's economy, depending on options (factory tach, factory air, power windows, etc) of course.

The '73-'87's haven't brought the money of a '67-'72.

8 G's is not outta the question where I'm from. I'd never pay that but people do. Hard to guess on price without seeing it. No higher than 8 if it's mint.

Thanks for the input. I really don't see 8 to 10 grand they are not that rare. My dad low balled the guy at 3500 and he said he would think about it. He is a ford guy so he has been jumping ship recently into the bowtie world. He just put a 350 in his motel t. So I'm slowly bringing him around. Hopefully guy sells him the truck.

That truck would be 8-10k up here in Michigan, too. 4k would be a steal if it was rust free.

That's interesting, that truck would be no more then 4k absolute tops and even at that price its redic. They made that truck body style for 15 years.

I had a 79 short box 4x4 in pristine shape and everyone who looked at it tried to talk me down to 1500.

Edit: mine was the Silverado trim too so no body molding and had the factory tach

yeah 8-10k is nuts to ask around here. even 67-72s go for 5-6k in running/driving good condition here. my dad has picked up quite a few for cheap as hell!

A rust free 73-87 is pretty rare in the rust belt, a rust free short box could easily bring $7000+ I got $1500 out of my 6.2L longbox and it was rusted BAD.

A rust free anything in the rust belt is worth a lot...

While duramax powered silverado's go for a small fortune here in Seattle, and you guys laugh at how much I paid for my rig, I :roflmao: at paying even $4k for a chevy short and wide. There's a dozen within two neighboring cities for 3500 or less, 6 of them are rust free

Maybe I should pick three of them up and sell them online for 10k, then I could pay off my engine build free and clear ;)

Didn't end up buying the truck. Started missing real bad during test drive last night and not grabbing gears. He decided to walk away. My dad said it was nice but he didn't need another project right now.
