Steve Cole of TTS is claiming that he has been to nearly all the diesel drag events in the US, and he says 4x4 trucks have the same safety record as 4x2 trucks.

Diesel drag racing has a very good safety record, and there are some excellent 2wd racers, but the only reports I have of crashes are 2wd, I just haven't heard of a 4x4 crash yet.

Anyone seen or heard of a 4x4 accident yet? Or 4x2 accidents?

This is important because he's fighting against the SCTA permitting 4x4 to be used for land speed racing. He doesn't race, but claims to a master of all racing. To those who don't know him, sometimes he fools them, and take him seriously.

Ive never heard of a 4x4 diesel crash, it would be on most of the boards if there was such an incident, heard of a couple 2wd crashes before.
For all the passes run in the last 10 years or more a couple crashes is a pretty damn good ratio in any form of racing.

Sounds like he has agenda against ya Pat. Didn't you pull front diff & transfer case the last season you ran LSR?

The only 4X4 I know of was Drake with total diesel performance last year, he hit the wall but it was minor, front tires were to low on pressure and it went into death shake mode. Other than that way more 2wds have crashed.

He went into the wall because his steering linkage broke. Wasn't much of a crash. Just slowly drifted towards the wall.

Yep snapped a tie rod... he brushed the wall Anthony and I were on the strip right after it happened, if it wasn't for the offset of his wheels he could have rubbed his DS fender good but he just brushed the wheel and slick. I have pictures but my phone is broken

Here's what I don't understand. Robert and I got Casper to handle very well in 2wd after some work. It's not to my advantage to allow others to run in 4x4 (we can't go 4x4 in Bonneville trim due to the Ford 9" rear).

I want the rule change for the safety of others. And this is why I think Cole is serious threat to the diesel community. He doesn't make decisions based on what's best for the diesel community, he makes them based on marketing purposes. He's not a big threat, since most folk no longer take him seriously, but some still do, and that's the problem.

Remember when he was petitioning for tighter rollcage restrictions for the slower trucks, but not the faster trucks? Or to reduce diesel drags to 1/8th only? These positions were taken to advance particular trucks he was sponsoring, not what was best for all racers.

So using Steve Cole logic we better call all offroad racing organizations and tell them to stop racing their 4wd trucks at 130 to 140 mph someone might get hurt....what a shame that guy never learns how to keep his yapper shut!

I saw JoshH almost crash last year at Ennis in 4wd when the truck that went before him put some coolant or tranny fluid down and they didn't clean it up. He got sideways about 3/4 track. He told me his log showed he was going 96 mph when the tires boke loose.

Also have to add in the point made a couple years ago about mixing front radials and bias-ply slicks for 2wd trucks.

For the guys who run them, how do these trucks like having 4 slicks on them, anyway? Just how squirrelly does the vehicle get at speed?

Agreed on the point about Cole only "looking out for #1" to the determent of the entire diesel community.

I can only speak from driving Casper. But, I have never felt unsafe driving him.

I read that thread Pat. I'm not sure why Steve has a dog in the land speed fight. He may be a parts supplier/tuner of a few vehicles running out there but he isn't suiting up so it shouldn't matter to him. He also seems to have it out for your airdam, I doubt he would feel the same if you bought it from him or was in his corner on things.

I really hope they change the rules and allow 4WD. It would allow a ton of factory type trucks to go out and enjoy Bonneville before the salt disappears.
