The weight classification is pretty standard...

Saw couple pictures of GM using Huck bolts.. for frame securement.. semis use this substantually...

The Allison 2550 has a GVWR of 33k I haven't found the 2700 series yet... Logic says it's at least 33k... and the two rear axle options are 35k/40k respectively
GM press release says max of 30k
So if the truck weighs 10k...can only hook a 20k Trailer to it before you hit the 30k GCVWR... Which is BS imo

IMO the Kodiaks where too heavy for intended uses....
Which killed capacity..
The trucks seams to come with straight ladder frame chassis's which is different than the Ford dodge version
For an example my FL60 mutt I built is class 6 and on par with the 6500HD has 8k front and 15k rear axle and 23lb GVW... It weighs 11k giving me 12k of cargo/upfit capacity..
Haven't seen any empty weight of the new MD trucks yet

In bold is what I was getting at.

Hell don't the 1-Ton GM's have 30k GCVWR?

Looked it up, GCWR on a 18 GM 3500 is 31,300.

As it reads, the 4500 series trucks would be rated lower than the 3500 series...right?

Yeah if the GCVWR stays constant.. the heavier class truck will tow less due to the heavier empty weight of the said truck...*♂️

Currently the 4500/5500/6500 all rated at 30000lbs GCVWR

Dodge 5500 has a 39-40k GCVWR

IMO GCVWR
4500 should be 35k
5500 should be 40k
6500 should be 50k (with a S17-140 axle)

I was thinking that the trucks were rated higher than what they are. That's why I was mis-informed.

I guess you see more service bodies or other beds on MD trucks, not many of them are towing.

It's baffling how they are rated. The platform of the MD trucks provides quite a bit more confidence towing and the heavier parts are used to support that theory too.

I ran at 36k with my LMM and 4.56 gears at roughly L5P power level, that's roughly 28k trailer.. with a closer ratio trans 40k gcvwr shouldn't be an issue especially if they increased cooling capacity for the Engine oil..

50k GCVWR I'd really like to see a ISL9 comparable size engine.. and 400HP+
the 2700 series Alison comes with #3/#2 bell housing options. #2 would open up alot of MD/HD transmission options with a 14" clutch..

Definetly setup for vocational/small bucket dump/contract service body, flat bed, wrecker(243"WB CTA of 162"(think 25' roll back wrecker)) with 12-13k capacity for the 6500 trucks

I wouldn't have a problem hooking 30k or less trailer to either of the trucks.. just real disappointed that GM didn't recognize said potential..
I'm sure 40k Trailer wouldn't be an issue either.. though thats little out of my area of experience

End of the day the 6.6 dmax is basically still same Engine that comes in a 2500hd truck

40k is a lot of weight for the 6.6 to be dragging around - consistently.

I’d like to see them offer a higher liter engine as well. Hopefully not a Navistar powertrain.

Considering how little of these they move (relatively) I’m sure they’ll stick with the Duramax across the board for a couple years and then offer a higher liter gas/natural gas engine when the new HD rolls out.

The engine will be designated as L5D and will have 350hp/700tq. Smaller turbo and milder tune for longevety.
