Mine was $4500 for bearings, short fill, .040 bore, line bore, key the crank, balance and assembly. He said it would be more next time because he didn't know diesels were so dirty. It was the first one he did.

Considering that includes assembly, tolerance checks, and all the normal machine work, it isn't unreasonable.

Well, it is, but it is perfectly normal for a diesel.

Ya, but you assembled yours yourself. OP had his assembled by the machine shop it looks like. That is a fair price for disassembly, machine work, & reassembly. I wouldn't complain about that at all.

Yea I'm not upset or anything. Just wasn't expecting that. I searched on here forever to get an idea and 2500ish was the average. Kind of a weird deal the machine shop did the assembly so I'm assuming the shop my truck is at is just gonna put it in.

I guess you didnt know you dropped your eng off at a machine shop /eng builder ? If all the clearances are good you made out just fine ! Good luck with the build !

I dropped it off at a shop thinkin they did the assembly and install. I didn't know they had the machine shop do the whole thing minus the install

You will learn that many of these "diesel performance shops" dont build there own engines. More of a bolt on shop. Takes true talent to build them.

For them assembling it that is a fair price. It takes a lot of time and liability.

4K isn't too far off for all that but I have some questions.

Why does it not show any head work? Put new heads on?

Was the cam key'ed as well? It's not on the invoice

Why are they not giving you the actual full list of things done on the engine from the machine shop?
Doesn't show anything about freeze plugs, what bearings used, bottom end o rings used/cost, etc.

Not trying to alarm you but they are missing some stuff that is benefitial to you for down the road in a sale or in a rebuild. I usually have a 4-5 pages of stuff for a customer showing clearances, specs, costs, and what exactly is in that engine

Nope, that wasnt unreasonable considering what was all done. Diesel = Gourmet, even at the machine shop.

The shop isn't done with the heads yet. They're getttin completely redone they needed everything.

The cam is a wagler af cam so it was already keyed. As far as the rest I'll ask for a full list when I pay the final bill. So like you said it'll help down the road.
