Anybody done a turbo on a 4.3 V6? I have a 1993 Sonoma I drive to work and run errands with etc. and been thinking about this to wake it up a little, how hard would it be to put a turbo on it?

Wonder how compatible a setup off of a GN or Syclone/Typhoon would be? They're both turbo'd 4.3 V6 from the factory. :coolspot:

I wonder what those factory boosted applications did for the head gaskets? Isn't head gasket failure fairly common on 4.3? Adding boost sure wouldn't help that I wouldn't think.

Where's Johnboy when you need him?!?! He's probably forgotten more about turbo'ing the 4.3 than most of us will ever know - he played with the GN before he got into the duramax IIRC.

The syclone my dad has bent the rods at 22psi and never had head gasket issue. I do think it bent the rod from detonation though. Not sure what trans was in it but it was stock and ran 12.9

The Buick wasn't a 4.3, but they may have some similarities. I always thought intake gaskets were the real problem, but I wouldn't be afraid to boost one.

I had a vortech supercharger on a 1992 4.3l S10. The biggest problem is the that is a CPI motor and I would think you'd run out of fuel. The one I did I switched to a carb. It was a stock shortblock and made 10psi, ran good but never had it on a Dyno. The stock 4.3 head flow like crap and the stock cams arnt much. The intake gasket issues we're on the later 4.3s where they switched to a plastic gasket. Felpro makes and replacement. GN is a 3.8l motor

The cpi would be your limiting factor. That single injector simply can't flow enough fuel. You could always pick up a 4.3l marine intake(looks like the 4.3l vortec, but is made of cast iron with external injectors), do an 0411 ecm swap easily enough, swap in a 4l60e from a 5.7l and build it, and then add some boost.

Thanks for all the suggestions and letdowns, lol. I now realize it’s just a daily driver and will probably stay the way it is until something major happens to it. I hope that’s a while, it’s a 1993 with 146k miles on it.

Put a racetronix fuel pump in it a buy a NX wet kit:D A 100 shot would be plenty fun
