3rd time is a charm

After 2 failed attempts earlier in the season, I was finally able to get it done. Hard work and luck paid off. I stalked to within 150 yards of him on the mountain. Shot was at 130 yards. This is a rare tag to draw in Idaho, Unit 40 and this is my very first buck. To say I’m excited is an understatement! Thanks to my buddies for all the help and being out there. Nothing better than hunting with buddies. We all loaded our packs and got him out in one trip on the mountain.

Nice buck! Thats hunting there. Down here most hunt on leases with feeders. There ain’t no sport in that compared to what I’m use to. Plus most guys just go to drink beer and carry on. That’s not my thing. I’d rather sit out in the woods in the peace and quiet all day.

I grew up in the Midwest tree stand hunting....I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to it. Mountain hunting makes you work for it and the reward at the end makes it all worth it.

Thats where I started hunting too. The best part of it for me was you have to be a good shot. I have never had a good buck get closer then 150yds. Most where 200-300 yds out. Hunting in the snow up there was nice though. Trying to find signs of deer while in the woods with foliage on the trees while sweating in a T-shirt on it’s kind of tough.
