What, mechanically, would cause a really, REALLY bad 3-4 flare? By flare, I mean, when it shifts 3-4, the RPMs spike. Not just a little blip in the RPMs, a full on free rev like you hit neutral.

well, it's hard to run a stock tune because it's a built truck and a certain amount of "tuning" needs to be done in order to run normally. That said, yeah, it still did it with the "stock" tune and with whatever tuning changes are made in the ECM and TCM.

The truck was doing this, pulled the trans, swapped out the C2s w/ Reybestos replacements. Still not better. The new clutches probably don't have 100 road miles on them trying to get the trans to learn and only one hook.

Can't say for sure on that mike... it does go into 4th still, it's just that the RPMs have suddenly skyrocketed, then it decides to engage 4th at the elevated RPMs. NOT a pretty deal at all. As far as I know, it doesn't throw codes if that means anything at all.

I'm guessing a log would be nice, huh?!?! How else, short of logging, would we know if it's actually going to neutral or just flaring???

With a Tech 2 you can command shifts. Make sure it is not skipping fourth and going straight into fifth from third. Call me if you need me.
