I am in the process of converting my truck from 2wd to 4wd. My only hang up is can i just unbolt the yoke and take the rear cover off and press the output out? Or do I need a whole new shaft? I already have the adapter plate but just in the dark on the shaft. Thanks for any help,.

The entire housing and shaft need to be replaced. If you change the planetary gear, make sure it matches the thrust torrington bearing properly. Then you must check the endplay of the gear train. You can easily distroy the trans in a few miles if you don't.

The only reason i am doing this is got another a complete frame with everything for a very reasonable price and we do drivetrain (rebuilding transfer cases and diffs) so i will save a ton of money there; we just don't build trannys.
