I decided to mess with the tcm tune a little tonight, more or less to play with the TCC tables since the slip limits are available now.

Anyhow, I tried to make a 2nd gear start tune, for normal driving modes since 1st gear is so short. I changed the 1-2 upshift tables, 1-2 WOT , 2-1, 2-1 WOT and the according rpm table too.

At first I only changed the normal mode, left the hot shift and t/h mode stock, and it would be in first gear until I touch the throttle, engine hesitates for a split second then bumps into 2nd and carries on like usual.

I read an older thread on here that the 5sp calibrations don't like to respond to changes only in one area, so I changed all the shift modes to "0 mph" to start in 2nd but I had the same results. Now that being said, I can brake stall it and feel it hesitate and start building boost after it shifts (all while sitting still). Leads me to believe there's some throttle table I'm missing or isn't available? Are the guys doing it for sled pulling getting the same results?

This is all based on the factory tcm tune from my truck. OS 15196784 , cal 15169839

Different OS will respond differently.

Not all of them will behave when trying to accomplish a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear start tune.

Try an older OS.

Hmm interesting. I'll try an 02 file I have, don't have an 03 file. Didn't really want to make the trans relearn too much switching files. Thanks.

For some reason almost all 5 speed OS will work perfectly when doing a 3rd gear start. Meaning they will go straight to 3rd gear when you pull the shifter into D.

I can't remember what OS work the best for 2nd gear starts, but I know for a fact that some will work 100% correctly, and some will not.
