Hey all, I just got myself a 2021 RST 3.0. Coming from a 2018 2500hd so this should be interesting.

I've started this thread for a general opinion from myself about this truck. I'll try to regularly post and keep updating it as time moves on.

Alright first review. Love being in a half ton the ride is very nice. The 3.0 is really quiet and well mannered with decent power for passing on the highway. My first tank of fuel came out at 24.8 mpg (canadian) ill note that it was crazy windy for the first 2/3 rds of the trip.

Undercoated what i could in the drive way today. Once I get a straw or something for the spray cans I'll go and under coat between inner and outer box over top the rear wheels. It can be accessed very easily by the three rubber caps in the box.

What are you use for undercoating?

Mitch, I think there's a small "Duramax" on the hood sides, like the LMMs/LMLs used to have.

I see it now that you mention it, Tom. Almost completely camouflaged by the reflection in the shiny paint. I thought I remembered there being a duramax badge at my glance, I just saw the Z71 badge and thought I'd ask.

Put some miles on the truck this past weekend.

On the way there my speed was 105 kph up to 115 kph and that got me 29 mpg.

On the way back I kept it at 100 kph as much as possible and I was able to squeeze 31.75 mpg out of it.

I haven't got milage like this in a half ton since my old 6.2 diesel lol, and it didn't have power like this thing.

Very pleased with the truck so far.

Also I picked up an banks idash gauge for it and will update on that later.

Anymore updates Jakezed22? I purchased a 2022 RST with the 3.0 and will pick it up tomorrow 1/12. Will be a weekend driver and use it to pull my 6k lb. camper around this coming summer. I don't believe that there were any changes between 21 and the pre 22 LTD trucks.

Hey, truck has been great. I've got 22000km on the odo know.

I'm in Canada and during the cold winter I've been averaging 25 mpg (I like to let the truck idle lots fyi) so I'm super impressed still by the mileage. If anything it has improved and once things turn warm I'll be shooting for a 34mpg lol

I had a repetitive engine light a couple weeks ago, dealer says the water pump need replaced (warranty of course) However since with was jn for diagnoses, it has been good. Still waiting on the pump.

Also I've had 5 crank starts in total on the truck, all before I hit 10000km. At which time it was refreshed with a newer calibration which has fixed that problem.

Your gonna love the truck! My uncle actually just bought one yesterday.

I use 4.45 to convert to gallons. I think that's a canadian gallon.

It’s actually 4.546. Good mileage on your truck. 18 mpg was the best I could get with my 2013 gas 5.3. With my 6.6 Duramax I get 23.6.

Must've got my 4 and 5 mixed up over the years lol.

My 2018 L5P did 24 at its best.

Curious. I never owned a diesel. I’ve heard there is more required “upkeep”.

Is that true?

You still liking the truck? Are you still stock height? I'm looking for input on lifts for these trucks, I just bought a 2022 and am starting my research for its build up.

I just purchased a 22' RST with 3.0L diesel. This is an LTD 2022. Looking forward to towing my 6k lb. camper this summer. I only have 100 miles on this truck now and am looking forward to learning all I can from owners that have daily driving and towing experience.

I had high hopes for the 3.0. I loved what Dodge did with the ECO Diesel and thought if I every had to get rid of my LMM this might be the way to go. Then when they came out and I started researching the new engine there were a number of things I did not like. Most of this centered on the complex cooling system with a number of different valve to control the flow of the coolant and the infamous wet oil pump drive belt. Here is a video where they interview the chief design engineer and he talks about the belt issue. Never liked when an engineer who has done a ground up new design refers to "it is what it is". It usually means their was a compromise of some sort internally. The excuse of there was not room for anything else is also BS. You can't tell me a chain drive that would require no time change at all would take up more room than the belt. To me it sounds like the decision for the wet belt came because it would be cheaper than the chain. Just having a hard time understanding why the belt drive and chain drive for the cams all had to be in the back. Not sure how this design would save any room for having to fit this in the standard 1500 chassis. Originally the wet belt was going to be a 175,000 time change. That is now 150,000. Why the change? Now don't get me wrong. There are a lot of pluses for the new engine. The power and economy are excellent but I tend to hold onto my trucks for a very long time. Got my 08 LMM back in early 2009 with only 7,000 miles on it. I love my truck and keep it spotless with now 190,000 on the odometer. I'm sure the 3.0 will give most a good life before trading in for something new. Time will tell but I just don't think the 3.0 will age well. It is certainly not an engine that you can easily work on. I am a firm believer in KISS and never like inducing a maintenance action when there was none before. Hence my dislike of the wet belt. I hope I am wrong but I'm not putting down that kind of money to find out. Dean
