I am in the market for a 2020 and when looking at different trucks' build sheets I noticed Federal emissions and California emissions. Does anyone know what one truck will have vs the other? I have searched and can not come up with anything

I thought everything LLY and up was 50 state emissions legal. Only the LB7 has a cali and fed version. So the 2020 will be 50 state legal

CA won't allow you to register a new federal emissions vehicle, but will allow you to register used ones. There are exceptions for military and probably a few others, but generally if you are getting a new vehicle and live in CA, it needs to be CA emissions.

I also thought the new trucks were all CA legal, but maybe they still differentiate the paperwork even if there is no physical difference? Not sure why they would do that, though. I'd think they would just say CARB compliant on all of them, even if they aren't going to CA. I know a lot of new vehicles here in ID indicate CARB compliance even though we don't require it.

Ask your dealer but IIRC the federal option was strictly for gov and state vehicles, not for the public.
