Can anyone buy an ecm without having to return one as a core. Any help is appreciated.

The only way they will sell me one if I exchange one? Does every dealer do this I don't mind spending the money just would like to get one.

I thought they were on subscription still. When I bricked mine the first time I went looking for one and was told they weren't available for purchase...

I got one last year when they were on restriction..........it wasn't easy to get but if you have the right connections anything can happen.
I know why they want a 1 for 1 swap, so they can control what you do with your truck, they know an ecm swap masks some of the mods people do to these.........
Tony the TCM still logs maximum calculated torque though...and with the miles since last regen, regen counter, etc.......its going to be pretty hard to fool GM, even if you do swap ECM's.
All the manufacturers are demanding the cores back on torque converters, valve bodies and many more things even when you buy new. This practice removes the products from the aftermarket ( rebuilders ) and forces us to go to the dealer to buy. I bet if someone were to push this in court, they would win big time. But it will take a lot of money to do this.
I guess I'll wait, maybe they will sell them to the general public in a couple months. They are cornering the market for sure. I think your right about the legalities Mike
