My dad is looking at buying a new 2012 Dodge diesel. Any word on problems with these or to stay away from them. It will be brand new CCLB auto trans.

Thanks for any input.

headgaskets can be a issues but not generally on a stock truck, i love the 3 12's we have tow like beasts and ride great.

they can have a few injector issues as well though i have had none on the 3 trucks we have but others have gone threw 3 sets in 90k so all warranited though

he wont be dissapointed you'll want to do deletes for some mpgs down the road:D:thumb:

Other than emissions stuff, head gaskets are the biggest problems I've seen.

how common are the head gaskets? My dad bought one its a really nice truck. Get horrible mileage, like 12.5 in town.

trucks that tow heavy seem to lose them the most 9/10 times there towing when they loose the gasket if you see how the coolant passages are you'll understand why, also put a 5.9 190* t-stat in that helps keep temps down and seems to help gasket failures

doing deletes is the only way to get mpg outta them

Everyone truck I've done a head gasket on has been a truck that frequently tows heavy, had a big lift with big tires, or was making a substantial amount of power over stock.

6.7? I beat the ever loving snot out of one for 190,000 miles in my UPS truck....that engine ran great. Its too bad they cant put an Allison behind them in teh pickups, because they are a good combination.

Regeneration frequencies may be a problem. Dodges seem to like to eat DPF temp and pressure sensors. EGR valves can be problematic...try to keep it cleaned out. Turbos can also be a possible problem.

I love them!

I drive them everyday...

Probably because I sell them for a living. If I can be of any assistance to your dad let me know!

I work at Ken Garff West Valley Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and sell them.

Thanks for the info. He is more of a stock guy so I dont see delets for him but you never know.

It'll be a lot easier to convince him to do deletes when he has problems with emissions equipment. I just deleted an 08 the said she would never delete. Opinions changed quickly when the dpf got plugged and the warranty expired lol

Everyone always says that. To me it seems like the 6 speed 68rfe would be better than the other allisons. Not sure about how the new allis are.

I had the 6spdAlli behind mine. Shifts were smooth, and the pattern worked well with the Cummins...kept it right in its power band. That truck had a LOT of get-up. It would wipe out a set of rear tires in 17,000 miles, and thats not from hot-rodding it.
Only reason Im not driving it now is the regenerations were so out-of-hand....every 50 miles. The stink and potential health issues (nobody could tell me yes or no, so I opted on the safe side) from the fumes finally became too much of a problem for me. If I could have deleted the DPF, that truck wouldve been flat-out perfect. Id still be driving it.

Mechanics changed out EGR valve twice, the turbo once (didnt need it but we were trying to solve DPF issues) and a host of DPF pressure/temp sensors, but nothing else. Thats stop-n-go, 0-100% throttle 120x a day in a 10,000lbs truck on 185mile route...very severe conditions. The 6.7 was quiet and ran great.
