I have dually 3500 with only 13,500 miles used only towing trailer. When on hard pull up long hill would throw code and go into limp mode. Took to dealer and said needs new turbo. Now out of warranty because of year. Hate spending 3500$ on GM s flawed turbo. Any thoughts?

Moved to LML section.

Would be nice to know the codes you were showing. That could help pinpoint the real cause of your failure.
In the end, I would just stay with another stock turbo....which you can find elsewhere for less than that.

The dealer is typically not your best option for repairs on an expired warranty vehicle.

Like Tom said, we can offer better advice if you had the codes for us. I would suspect stuck vanes in the turbine instead of the entire turbo bad, based on the info given. Which does not require entire turbo replacement.

Danville performance has a new stock replacement for 12 or 1300 if I remember correctly. There would be others in the vendor section that has them also I'm sure if you decide to go that route.

Take it out and send it to Danville performance for repair and have him upgrade it a bit...

This is highly unusual though, most stock turbos have to be pushed hard to have problems but your is Probally from a lack of use...

If you took it to a capable shop, they could further diagnose it. Possibly needs position sensor or solenoid, but I'd lean towards vanes being stuck. Highly doubt it's the bearings bad or shaft broke etc. But that's what a dealership will do, replace replace replace.
