HI. First time posting on the forum. Hope I'm in the right spot.

I have a 2007 Silverado Classic 2500HD LBZ. When I get it running, it will idle fine. Even for an hour. When I drive it, it runs fine for a while. (sometimes 1/2 mile) (some times for 25 miles) Then out of nowhere, the engine loads up and smokes blue smoke until it floods and stalls. It will only restart after sitting for a couple of hours. When I get it running again, I let it idle until it runs smooth again. Then when I drive it, it loads up again. It's like you flip a switch and it loads up. The only Codes I get are P0621 (Generator "L" terminal circuit) P0675 & P0678(Glow plug control circuit). The Balance rates were within limits.

Thanks to all for reading. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply MACKIN,

I had the Tech II connected at the moment it happened. Oddly, it triggered no codes except the P0621 (Generator L Terminal circuit) code. The batteries stay charged and the Gen lamp on the dash is not on. It doesn't seem to me that that code is part of this problem.

Yeah, but what happened to fuel pressure and injector duration? Or timing or egr valve position? I've seen the egr valve partially open at idle and make a truck smoke or run like crap...

Good question. At the moment, I don't have the Tech II. I borrowed it. It will be a while before I can get it back. Do you think the EGR valve could be the problem?

Well I unplugged the EGR valve and it had no effect. Same result. Any other ideas?

How many miles on it? I had a customer's LLY with a 42% over II cp3 on it, it was around 10,000 miles old is all, but it would start up and run seemingly OK, but when warmed up it would die at stop lights on a random basis. Upon watching fuel pressure with efilive it was pretty erratic at times. I put a regulator on it and it was fine for about 3 months, then started doing it again, ended up being the cp3... But fuel pressure and fuel(mm3) started really jumping around and it would sound like it flooded out and died

Thanks to MACKIN and Yellow Jacket for your help. The devil is in the details. It turns out that Diesels run best on strictly diesel fuel. Today I found out that someone borrowed the truck and it stalled on them shortly after getting fuel. Seems they put some E-85 fuel in it. I pumped it out and changed the fuel filter. Runs great now! :):):):):)

Thanks again!

Wow! Good thing you caught it, 2 "females" in the Iowa Army National Guard put gas in a DMAX powered c5500 service truck and drove it running like crap with lots of lights on the dash til it "quit running"... Engine and furl system were all junk.
