I thought stock dual alternator setup was two 105 amp. But there is nothing preventing the use of 145 amp alternators unless the charging wire gauge is too small. Ambulance package may be different

When I look up the bracket for the dual alternator 97356246,

On the LB7 and LLY its showing K56 for 105 Amp Alternators. Same for Dual

On the LMM its showing KH5 for the 150 Amp Alternators. Same for Dual

But the LBZ Show 2 options K56 for 105 Amp or KG3 for 145 Amp option.

Had a bad regulator inside a new GM alternator years back (UNDER WARRANTY), it was putting out 16.9 , new alternator and all was good.

Alternator fixed the issue. Must have had a bad regulator in the other. This is why I don’t trust shops when they tell me something is wrong or something is fine.

I think most only check for a minimum voltage. If it's above that then it "passes". Yours probably had an internal short that passed battery current straight to the rotor bypassing the regulation. A new regulator would've probably fixed it too. But looks like you got it figured out

Did you put in AGM batteries? My 2011 gasser has charged high since I put an AGM in it, but it's only about 15.2.
AGM batteries have some of the lowest internal resistance out of all the lead acid batteries. That lower resistance can increase the charging current when the battery is discharged. If one or more of your alternators are weak or have a bad connection then it could stress it enough to possibly damage the regulator and cause the same situation as Zak had
