I just have a question about my 2005 duramax. I'm thinking it might be air in the fuel lines or a bad injection pump it is hard to start it and before I try to start it I have to prime the fuel filter and it will run for about 10 seconds and shit back off it does this repeatedly. Just trying to get some ideas of what it could be. Thanks

Bad fuel filter, leaking water in fuel sensor (bottom of filter) or bad filter head, replace filter and retry. Rebuild or replace the filter head. Oh and don't use the plastic filters.

I put a brand new fuel filter housing with a new filter and it still is doing what it has been. Is there a chance it could be my fuel injection pump. I'm hoping that's not what it could be. Thanks guys

Have you done anything on the electrical lately? Once it starts and dies what happens if you don't prime it again?

Also look the fuel line all the way back to the truck over for small leaks.

I haven't messed with the electrical stuff any and if I done prime it it won't even start it acts like once I prime it the only fuel it has to burn is it the fuel filter

On some of those earlier truck the fuel line would rub under the cab back at the rear seat belt backing plate. The line there is the cloth cover plastic. Try looking there.

I wouldn't think it could be that I put a new one in new housing and filter I'm thinking air is getting into it somehow or how likely would it be for the fuel injection pump to be junk ? I'm not too sure about this kind of stuff

That's what is good about a lift pump, if there's a leak it will come out somewhere. Sounds like air is getting in somewhere. When my injection pump went bad it leaked so I'd say yours might be ok. You are sucking a lot of air somewhere for it to lose prime that fast.

That's what I'm hoping it is. Just air I just ordered a air dog lift pump about 2 days ago so I'll put it on there and see what the problem is. Thank you for your help. I appreciate it

That primer should get hard as a rock in a few pumps. What Filter are using, plastic or metal? I would put the supply hose in a soda bottle of fuel and pinch of the outlet from the filter head. Should pump up rock hard.
