2003 Allison c1 clearance

I am working on a transmission rebuild. I am working on a 2003 LB7 with an Allison. The rebuild kit is a Suncoast Gmax-5R-3. Everything seems fine except my clearance on the C1 clutch pack. The clearance measures 0.125 inch. The spec is 0.090 to 0.115. How can I correct this?

How thick is your top plate .390?

I never measured the top plate. I just installed the plate that came with the kit. Is there a different thickness of plate available?

I used a feeler gauge on one side of the pack. I used a flat screw driver to hold the other side of the pack against the snap ring.

WTF kind of measurement is that?

I use two equal stacks of feeler gauges on opposite sides of the plate.

Measure it

Evan I pulled the top plate off the clutch pack and measured it. The plate is 0.390 thick. Also I remeasured the clearance. This time I used two feeler gauges. 1 on each side of the pack. My actual clearance is 0.130 inch.

I would get a .420- .425 top plate. Suncoast can send you one or you local machine shop can likely cut your stock one for you. The last c1s i got from suncoast came out the same. :thumb:

I was checking the clearance with only 1 snap ring in place. I left the spiral snap ring out.

That's correct. A .425 top plate will get you were you want to be.

Thanks Logan. I sent my stock c1 top plate to the local machine shop. He wasn't sure if he could cut it down for me but said he would try it.
