Either kit should work fine for you @ the power level you described. I really like the precision ML converter. I have two of them one on a twin setup & other on a stock turbo #7.:thumb:

The old mans lily has a sun coast trans and a 1056 converter which works good as well.

Over the years, I have had ATS kit and a Suncoast GM5 kit. I have seen the photos of the PPE kit. DONT GO ATS!!!! I'm currently running a GM5, with other internal mods, and an ML Precision converter. The combination works great.

In my opinion these are "kits" to increase the performance of your trans. These are not what I would call a rebuild kit. All seem to come with the gaskets, or more gaskets than you may need if one of the suppliers includes gaskets, then throws in a complete Trans-Go package, which will also come with gaskets. What these do not provide are the internal seals, o-rings, etc. That is an extra box. They also will not provide the torrington bearings, which should probably be replaced.

As has been stated earlier, either the Suncoast or PPE kit are a good start. I would also ask your builder if he uses a Tech II for resetting the taps and fast learn the TCM. Allison also makes a box that plugs in and can reset the taps and fast learn the transmission. The TCM should REALLY be reset with the correct tool. I have heard that other units (Snap-On, EFILive) can work OK on some transmissions, but not others, I guess it depends on the TCM or transmission series, or both....

Mike L's cooler is the way to go. I took off my deep pan on the last rebuild, because I got tired of paying for more oil that is just not needed. The deep pan was my first try at cooling the trans. It did not work, it just took longer to heat the oil. The cooler fixed the issue.

I'll leave the converter discussion to others.

I believe he said this is for his 01, which means you CANNOT do a fast learn on it(only reset it to base and drive it to let it learn). 01 TCM OS are not capable of doign the fast learn like 02+ TCM's can. And I'm REALLY happy with my PRECISION ML. I can only imagine the ML-G is even better(although I don't see how it could be better).

wow thanks alot for great info, def sound like converter for me!! yea def getting the HD stator bc i want to drag race and be reliable as possible. low 13 be awesome and breaking into 12s would be sick. my trucks bit heavier than yours tho. truck might go on diet to get into the 12s haha. what rpm do launch your truck at? i know my would be different but just wonder

It wont take much to get into the 12's and if i were you id go see big dipper to do your trans, anyone can build a trans, but building it right to hold up to your application is another story! i went Mid 12's on my first pass ever , It depends on your tuner also!:thumb: Goodluck bro let the fun Begin!

oh im not worried about caleb and work he does. he does everything you think of to these trucks from full blown 1000hp motor to hand built twin or single kits to tuning or hand building anything needed for pull truck. his own pull truck is prolly ez around 1000hp. i know plenty of ppl that have his trans and other work do and they all say did great work and havent had any problems. he did the head studs on my truck last year bc gasket was leaking and he cover ever area of concern i had like he was reading my mind. hes just not that well know bc works alone so doesnt want to much work but hes always busy tho. as to the 12s my truck is very heavy with bumpers i added and my cap and equipment and such havent weigh it but i need to. easily close to if not over 8000lbs. might have take of cap if i dont like what it runs

just got her back today just taking it easy can already notice a difference. shifts are way quicker and smoother. didnt getting on too much just once when i kinda had to get back on highway off emergency pull over bc needed to take a call. it def put a smile on my face. really puts the power to the ground. i didnt get it retuned yet because i want to put some miles on the truck and get sum other fuel mods done then when i retune. just have Robs stock trans safe tunes. havent even ran on hottest tune yet. if anyone is thinking about going to caleb to get the trans done dont think go to him great guy, easy talk to wont sell something you dont need quick turn around and just does great work. already put 100 plus miles on most that was highway though driving back from Caleb's today haha. have to run her thru gears more like city driving to break her in but so far its great.

x3!

Go practice some boosted launches Tom. PRP opens in a few weeks. :D

oh caleb does nice work and very ez deal with specifically compared alot other trans builders, ha. also he wont sell nuttin you dont need like some others too, ha. yea will do haha. but first still getting shifts dial in abit. caleb said valves body still might need to adjust abit on 3 to 4 shift but said might go away once relearns and breaks in. bc its shift fine when fairly ez but gettin better, so we will see. also im take it back once trans is all dialed in or needs adjusted to get ECM retuned for built trans with lbz FPR i got steal on run line straight from airdog to CP3 and relocate FICM. then it be time to start practicing for track then take her to track and see what she got. haha.
