I know I've asked this before, but has anyone with a 2001-2002 Duramax painted their air dam(plastic piece that surrounds the fog lamps)? I really want to paint mine black to match with the top of the bumper and the fender flares. I've asked before, but never got a answer I was looking for.

How would you do it? I heard cleaning it when 90% rubbing alcohol, and then paint it with Krylon Plastic Paint would do the job, but is that all?

C'mon 01/02 guys:hug:, help me out :D

can't you just buy one in black? Probably be better in the long run. I can see painting it if you are going for a glossy look tho

Sorry I cant help ya on how to do it yourself but when I was looking into it I found a few threads over on the DP that had some pretty good info on what needs to be done. To do it "right" looked like a lot of work so I gad a body shop do mine. Cost quite a bit but its holding up awesome after two years. Good Luck man:thumb:

I've used thay krylon Plastic Paint before and it works great and holds up fairly good as well, I've only used it on interior pieces though, never exterior but I don't see why it wouldn't work, all i did for prep work is just clean it really good and made sure it had no oils on it.

If you were gonna paint if with paint through a spray gun and use a primer, I would sand it with a red scotch brite pad, I've done that before and it tends to hold really good. When sanding with the scotch brite don't ge to carried away, just enough to cut into the latic a little, it doesn't take much.

Good Luck:thumb:

Ok guys I'm sorry for the late reply, but here's the deal. NO you cant buy one alreayd black. I have already took off the air dam which was a complete bitch, idk if its easier on 03+ trucks. Me and my friend painted it and so far it looks great. We're letting it settle in for a couple of days until I drive with it on. I'll have a list of things you will need and pics of it on the truck hopefully tomorrow.

Scuff, clean with denatured alcohol, adhesion promoter, flex additive depending on what paint you use. Not rocket science.

i painted mine with krylon plastic paint they call it fusion paint i think. just clean it with some sort of degreaser cleaner. Mine held up pretty good so far. I painted my lower valance bumper cover and the honey comb part of the grill because most of it was starting to fade alittle. held up good for over a year now but im gonna color match it all hopefully come spring.

Just cleaned mine then hit with some quality flat black matches nice and has been on for months the best part about the flat black is you can touch it up without doing the whole thing.I use the same paint for the frame and can touch it up anytime without being able to tell. Frame always looks like new it works out nice.
