Hey guys. Keep in mind, i am no gear head by any means but i know my way around a garage and have just about every tool i would need and do the basics on all my own vehicles oil change, filters, tires, breaks, etc... with that being said.... scale from 1-10 with 10 being shop level expertise....how hard is it to install a set of drop shackles on a 14’ duramax 25004x4....mcgaughys i think i who i would go with on that shackle. Thanks guys

Depends on how rusty it is if you're in the rust belt. All 3 I've done we're somewhat a 5 considering I had the air tools and a air hammer to force the upper bolt that tend to get seized in the leaf spring bushings. It's much easier to remove the bed bolts and raise it up about a foot. No need to remove the bed off the frame unless you're going to clean up the rust.

The LML is tougher because you have to cut and fold over a pinch weld on the bed that's in the way of the top of the shackle going in to place, if you don't cut and fold it over it will push the bed up in two spots

I would normally say it's a straight forward job. My LB7 thought otherwise. What I thought should be a two hour job turned into a two day job (had to remove the left side spring and buy a new front spring bolt from GM), one trip to the doctor to get metal ground out of my eye (yes I wore safety glasses) that cost about $150 (if I remember correctly), one follow up eye doctor appointment, and 3 missed classes at Penn State.

I plan to get shackles for the LML soon. I have eye insurance now.

Yep, forgot to mention that. Mark that area first before you take the old shackles off and cut the pinch weld flush to the bottom of the bed to clear the new shackles.

It'll let you know if you didn't fold the pinch weld over far enough the first few times you take a some good bumps. I flipped the bolts to make it easier to remove the nuts if I ever have to go at it again. Can't remember if it was upper or lower ones I flipped but when you take them out you'll see.
