the hotter it got the worse it got, an injector or two sound like theyre toast, id pull them and get them tested before something else goes, thing sounded rough.
Not knocking your mechanic but Id want a second opinion on a cp3 causing excess smoke with no rail codes..
I'm still guessing it's return side on the injectors, that can be tested without sending them off but you'll need an old return hose and a measuring cup
