How bad will this effect the ring seal? I know the block moves a lot with the 12mm studs so if you make the hole bigger I would think it would move more. I do like the idea of more surface area on the bigger stud. Jeff

Not a factor for us as we do all of our machining with torque plates installed to simulate the stress of having a head torqued to the block.

12mm ARP-2000 material head studs: Torque to 125 ftlbs.

12mm ARP-625 material head studs: Torque to 150 ftlbs.

SoCal 14mm Head studs: Torque to 190 ftlbs. :D

I'm at home now, so I don't have pricing at my finger tips.

You obviously need to drill and tap the block, ream the heads, and alter the head gaskets.

I feel the overall stability of the larger OD fastener is much better.

We have installed the 14mm studs on a number of our builds and they have done quite well.

Here is the break down:

1) Normal ARP 2000 head studs. $650
2) ARP 625 material head studs. $1576

3) 14mm stud kit $735
Drill and tap Block $350
Ream heads $125
Modify head gaskets for 14mm $100

Total 14mm conversion $1310

Do the head alignment dowels still work with the 14 mm studs, or what is done to make sure the head is in the exact right spot when you drop it down over the studs onto the deck? Is the machining between the studs and the holes they pass through in the head tight enough to not need an alignment dowel?

I don't know but guessing by the fact he reams the holes rather than drilling them I would say it is possable to use the studs for alignment:confused:

Bigger studs

I understand what your saying with the TQ plate. Mine was done with one also. Anyone who does a block without one is giving up ring seal, and a lot! These blocks move when the heads/plate is put one. Thanks Jeff

We are always developing new products. :D

It is somewhat of a no win situation for me. If I sell the product before it is completely tested and it has a problem, the customer is upset.

Then when I complete the testing and finally release it, customers that didn't get a chance to implement it in their builds are disappointed they didn't get it.

My apologies to all. ;)

This is the process of pioneering folks, and the pit falls of it. We don't have the luxury of a catalog with parts like a 350 chevy build. Were on the front of the wave here. All you can do is be happy it will be there for the next build or what you can add to help the durability. We can also be very thankful Guy comes out with the stuff he does. It helps us go further with what we once thought was a dream.

My hat is off to you Guy! You've helped me more than a few times. Thank you! Keep up the good work. Your a staple in our industry and sport.

I hope my post didn't come across as complaining. I am very glad people like Guy are out there developing new parts. I know we can't always have the best parts because there are always better parts being developed which is a good thing.
