LBZ: 100K tune up

Okay this might be a retarded question but my truck just turned 100k and the most expensive servise it now due to the tune of $800+ at the shop. My question is what needs to be replaced/oiled up/filtered? Any thing crazy that I cant do my self or is this one of those that should go to the "professionals" lol?

$800?? keep changing the oil ,and the fuel filter, make sure your air filter is clean, some people like to flush out the coolant and put fresh stuff in, and u should have been lubing the chassis every other oil change anyways... so i think $800 is a bit high.. if it runs good dont mess with anything else..:thumb:eek:h yea, i would change the diff fluids if u havent already and service the trans filters as well.

I would say both internal and external trans. Filters oil filters and both diffs. Check the other fluids and replace as needed

it calls for everything and more lol litteraly everything on the servise manual. Honestly I've never messed with diff and I've nver changed the fluid(i;ve only had the truck 4 months) and where are the internal trans filters and external filters. Also where could I find chassis lubs and where would I apply it?

there should be zerk fittings at all the lube points...u can get all the fluids i suggested above and all the filters ,(engine and both trans) @ napa for under $250.. there is a cheap grease gun avail for around $10-12 bucks and a tube of grease is between $3-7.. just loosen the diff cover and stick a big pan under it and all the fluid will start coming out, then clean it with brake clean and get all the old stuff out...when u change the diff fluids be sure to add the posi additive... one of trans filters is a spin on located on the outside of trans, u must drop the trans pan to change the internal filter..

i swear there is a drain plug under the the rear diff but its been a long time since i have changed my diff fluid.

I'd have to go look at my truck to be certain, but I'm almost 100% sure you are correct.

take out the fill plug and fill her up till it slowly drips out. install fill plug and you are done. the fill plug is on the diff cover where the bolt/oil stain is in the picture

there is a drain plug at the bottom.

if you have a 4x4 dont forget the front diff

There's a drain and fill plug on both the front & rear diff as well as the transfer case.

Mobil 1 75-90 synthetic was cheaper at AutoZone than on Amazon.
About 3.8 quarts for the rear and about 1.8 quarts for the front - gotta' buy 6 quarts.

Two quarts of tranny fluid for the transfer case - or three (of motor oil) if you go the overfill route - better look that up to get the details.

There's eleven grease fittings. Four on the balljoints and four on the tie-rods. They're easy. The other three are not. Remove the plastic skid-plate to get to the idler arm, pitman arm & idler pivot. Don't be tempted to skip these - even though they are a bit of a pain.

Change your Allison spin-on and drain & fill - about two gallons of Transynd if you like.

You may want to flush your coolant at 100k - that's two gallons of coolant with two gallons of distilled water. The LBZ has no radiator petcock - gotta' pull the lower hose . . . good times.

You also may want to look at your belt and idlers (there are three).

There's a few more items, but this is a good start.
As soon as it cools down in Phoenix, I'll attack some of these.
My LBZ turned 150k this week.
